I keep watching the release videos and after initially shunning the ducktail, I think in certain colors, it might work. The white one looks good...the red, meh.

I'll reserve judgement on looks, 'til I see one in person. I do like the new front bumper cover...best yet. Not sure about the rear. I'm on my 2nd, having had a '13 FRS, and now a stage 2 + (catless header & 93 tune) Hakone. I don't know what my car does 0-60 in, and haven't dynoed it, but I doubt the new GR is much quicker, with the ~20 hp (and how much torque?) of a stage 2 + tune, especially when the slight weight increase is factored...that is, until the aftermarket catches up. If I wasn't so happy with the Hakone and was hunting a new sports car, the GR86 would be near the top of my list. As it stands, if I love it in person, and especially if my coilovers & headers swap over, I may get one. If similar gains to the current car can be had with similar tuning investment, this ne GR will be a tough sports car value to beat. I thought about the new GR, before I bought the Hakone, and still don't regret the purchase. I've been enjoying the Hakone for a year, and will continue to do so for another 2 years or so. I'm guessing resale on a clean, low miles Hakone won't be to bad. I hope they sell a lot of these.

Wait six months after release...

Someone will want to go carbon fiber or they will wrap the side around a pole. You will pick up a used trunk lid for $125.

That's how I got my trunk lid with spoiler on my 2013... the plain trunk lid is wrapped in my garage. Color matches perfectly.

Of course, I am a parts vulture...

It's a 9" Display this time, so no aftermarket except maybe the Alpine 10" with custom installation if the deck comes out clean.

Agree. I liked the white one with the decklid. The red doesn't work for me. Maybe in person I'll end up loving red and hating white.

Significant improvements we can't see from photos.

Center of Mass has been reduced in height by 4mm with use of alloy roof this time.
Chassis floor bone structure all new, mated to shell based on previous structure with modifications and additional welds to stiffen chassis as a whole.

Teasers already from STI.

The rear wing is a swan neck made with dry carbon. Do not want to see the price on that one.

I feel like I'm very picky about car design, but I think they hit it out of the park with this. I preferred the design of the last gen BRZ to the 86/FR-S, but there's no question to me the GR 86 looks better this time. I'd also prefer to own Toyota-badged product (not that it matters) because our manual Outback left a bad taste in my mouth with terrible oil consumption issues and generally shitty material quality.

I'm very interested Halo White (I actually think the ducktail look cool but could go either way). Will be like my old white '90 Miata but with an insane power boost and a few creature comforts. It won't be my daily driver, so not that it matters. I'd probably go used Miata again but convenient to stuff two small kids in the car when I need to.

I don’t think so, they would have looked better if that was the case.

I've done that a couple of times (a Mazda Miata, and a Honda del Sol), when a car in stock had a spoiler I didn't want and a friendly dealer was willing to swap trunk lids.

The key is finding a friendly dealer. Not all want to be bothered with something like this. Sometimes there can also be the complications of key or in this case remote control solenoid for opening the trunk or other related parts that would need to be swapped.

In the past I've pitched it to dealers that by doing this, they can charge extra for the car they put the spoiler on, since now it has an additional 'option'. I don't want any 'discount' for removing the spoiler, just their labor to swap them out.

Still many questions, ifs, and buts before any buying decisions are made. But to my admittedly old-school curmudgeonly eyes, that hideous duck tail would be an absolute deal-breaker. I wouldn't buy a car with one (the spoiler on my stock 2019 BRZ was almost a deal killer).
