Trunk is doing everything in its power to stop from latching

I have searched quite a bit and either people don't have this problem or it was never resolved.

My trunk won't close, it goes all the way down and sits in the latch/hook deal, but just refuses to latch. I think this was a growing problem starting a few months ago when the trunk become very hard to close, requiring me to lean my body weight on it.

i think the latch may just be busted, but before I buy a new one I wanted to see if you all had any ideas.

some videos of the trunk not latching

If silicone spray won't get it lose, I suggest you get a new latch.

It doesn't seem stuck, the latch actuates just fine, it just doesn't click into the locked position.

OK, plan B. Get a different latch (new from a dealer or used from a wrecking yard).
