Check my build. Mine went out about the same time. I had to replace the snout.
It was just odd coincidence for you man. It is bound to happen to someone.

Yeah mine was making noise around 72K. And once I got in there it was completely falling apart. Snout was worn as well. Wasn't too hard to replace both and didn't take too long. It did take a bit of time to get the snout replacement, and that was pre-covid.

Transmission guy confirmed that TOB has failed. I've decided to just replace the clutch. He also said the flywheel "definitely" needs to be replaced (pic he sent me of the old flywheel below). He said he won't resurface because it's unclear how much they'd have to cut it and even then (if successful) would change the clutch feel.

Do NOT do the valve spring recall. I dont know if he was being sarcastic by saying do the recall, but Google frs valve spring recall and every single search result is about the class action lawsuit regarding our cars failing after the recall is performed. I do not know of a single person who's "faulty springs" failed, but I know countless cases of failure after the recall. I seriously do not know a single case of the factory springs failing.
Regarding the topic of tob, I'd recommend replacing the clutch and flywheel with oem parts while it's all open. Years later you wont miss the money you spent, and will be happy that you don't need to deal with clutch shit likely till you no longer have the car.

My TOB started to squeal under 40k miles (but plenty of track and high RPM usage). Perfect time to upgrade to a lightweight flywheel and stage 1 clutch. Sometimes just have to make lemonade! Love the lightweight flywheel, one of my favorite upgrades. Also threw in a strengthened fork and pivot at the same time, in addition to the revised TOB, so I'm hopeful this TOB will live a long and blessed life.

@HaXx I checked my VIN and it doesn't look like my car was affected which is a huge relief. I've had my FRS for 7 years and I still love driving it everyday!

No real downsides IMO. I get a small resonance in 5th gear around 3200-2600 RPM on decel. Slight chatter at idle with the a/c on, but stock was about the same. I went with the Exedy 12 lbs flywheel. I purposefully didn't go too light, but I think I would have been fine even with a 10-11 lbs one. If you're going to go this route, don't get an aggressive clutch. I could see that becoming quickly annoying with a LWFW due to the lack of momentum. I've got the Exedy stage 1 clutch and it feels perfect with this flywheel. Best way to describe it is OEM+

60k is basically as long as the stock TOB's last. Mine starting rattling at like 45k and thats with a ton of highway driving.
