LOL not really. Guess it depends on the tone you read what I wrote in.
Over engineering is over engineering be it moving a battery to a trunk or an $80,000 piece of scrap equipment. Anybody want to buy a three nut driver on a swing arm? Sell it to you half price.

get a light weight battery to offset the weight of the SC. Keep current battery as a winter spare.
Easy, simple solution that actually decreases overall weight rather than adding extra weight from cables and doing a hack job on your car. Saves time, and maintenance nightmares. If you really wanted to save more weight, just remove the car stereo and amps. i'm not gonna bother looking up the weight thread by i imagine the head unit and amp weighing 4lbs and the speakers all together weighing about 10lbs. Congrats, by installing a lightweight 10lb battery and removing the car stereo, you have now lost more than the gross weight of the stock battery; 20lbs off the front. /thread |

If you really want your battery in the trunk, why not just buy one of the kits out there.

the battery may be 1%o fthe weight of the car, but you are moving it from right on top of the longitudinal COG to the extreme rear of the car so you aren't moving 1% of the weight from the front to the back. It's from the middle to the back. You are increasing the moment arm of that weight from the center of the car out quite a ways which will cause the rear of the car to carry the inertia of that weight when cornering. If anything, the car will feel more sluggish in a corner and will want to carry a tail slide longer and be more difficult to catch. You can't just add and subtract the weight, you have to calculate the vectors of the weight. Plus, like @bcj said, extra weight.
There's also the safety factor. Batteries often off-gas when they get older and the gas is hydrogen (boom) and hydrogen sulfide (toxic). You will be closed in the same compartment with this thing. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...004-story.html |
