Thanks @sav

I don't think any of those options are worth it.
(and as mentioned 2 Toyota employees said that to me too).

The maintenance part;
You pay R34k for them to earn interest on your money for 5 years, for what? Some oil and filters and maybe a few other bits... remember other consumables like wind screen wipers or brake pads are excluded anyway.
(+ if you escalate that at 6% for 5 years and it's worth around R42/43k).
(If you earned just 6% interest it's another 2k per year!)

Again just my opinion on the warranty;
The warranty is basically an insurance product. Up to you to decide if it's worth it, but in my humble opinion it's also not worth it. Toyota is THE number 1 brand based on one main factor - reliability. So you really are insuring a negligible risk.

Obviously if you start doing mods like many on here (I'm doing headers and FF in Jan + good potential for other bits later) then it voids parts/all of the warranty anyway

Cars break, even Toyotas. Thinking something big could/would never break is extremely naive.

Seriously? R5k is NOTHING to cover your major components. and yes all cars break and you wont want to be the unlucky one who's 86 throws the diff out the back. That will be tears

My opinion is that the risk is negligible, so not worth it.

Sure, still don't think it's worth it... if it was everyone would do it, no?
Have you extended yours?

I've owned a number of different cars and bikes (including race bikes and a kit car) - many of which I've thrashed. I have never had 1 day's trouble with any of them, except the kit car... which was expected because it was thrown together in some guys garage, then worked on by me and my dad.

Do some homework on the problems with the 86 motor and the failures experienced in SA. This might change your thoughts.
If you not going to keep the 86 longer than 3 years 100 000 km then it will be a waste, but as Shaun says R5k could even get you better resale due to warranty.

There is a DBN guy with a BRZ, first month out of warranty the common spun bearing and Subaru have repudiated the claim. Estimated R45k repairs

I myself have had spun bearing along with about 15 others in DBN alone. Majority have extended warranty based on bearing, coil packs failures.
Btw the extended warranty covers the clutch.

You're wasting your letters. He's owned cars before so he knows better.

No need to be a d-ck about it... Just because I disagree with you?

Clearly it's only your opinion that counts, so as per your own advice I won't be wasting any more letters.
