Top Gear US

they're making it harder and harder to like the show.

if anyone saw last night you know what I'm talking about.

for those that didn't

We were subjected to the abuse and destruction of an AE86 at the hands of Tanner Foust.

it was a 1985 Corolla GT-S (unmodified)

he introduces it by drifting it into one of the other presenter's cars. (a Volvo 240)

it is then shot 6 times with a shot gun

-they set off a car bomb inside it

-they drop it from 15 ft onto it's side

-then finally drain it of it's engine oil and race it until it dies all while smashing it against the other two presenter's cars.

Now to make a point. I'm not ranting, I'm just a little angry, disappointed, what have you.

AE86's (especially GT-S) are getting harder and harder to come by unmodified. and it was hard to watch this one get destroyed.

Top Gear US needs some serious restructure if it's going to survive. But I'm loosing faith.

your thoughts?

I haven't seen too much of the US version of the show, but from what I have seen I like the UK version MUCH more.

I cannot stand Top Gear US. It's uninformative, unimaginative and thoroughly non entertaining. I find the hosts and their unscripted banter unbearable. I cannot believe it is still on air. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I love Top Gear UK. With the exception of their bias to European made automobiles.

I suspect that I am in the minority in that I hate (or strongly dislike) all the Top Gear shows. The UK version is too juvemile and stupid for me. The US version has made a very unfortunate choice of uhhh...automobile celebriteis to host the show. The only show that I have ever seen with a worst cast of characters was the Car Show hosted by Adam Corrola. That show stunk so bad that I still have to take a shower every time I think about the hour of my life that I wasted watching it.

Is it completely unreasonable to want a car show that does away with the stupidity and supposedly funny pranks and just presents automobiles as functional works of art?

There should be an off button on your remote or TV, if not you might want to return it from where you bought it.

Rampage, 5th Gear is for you.

I don't love any of the Top Gears and think drifting is a wank, but I would rate that Tanner guy as the best presenter on any Top Gear.

Top Gear UK and Fifth Gear are great in my opinion. The US one is..ugh...decent entertainment compared to the other crap on TV these days.

I hate the UK version. I can't stand those 3 clowns. The US version was pretty good the first season but after watching last night's episode, I told my son that I will never watch this show again. Why would I want to watch a bunch of cars that cost a couple of hundred bucks each getting destroyed by 3 idiots?

The ones they beat up are most likely already almost junk and polished up for the show. But if you take it for what it is, entertainment. Very rarely do you find educational on the t.v. Anymore......

Top gear UK>>>. That new episode was amazing. That blue Vanquish was one of the best-looking cars I've ever seen.

Still mad they got rid of Ben Collins though...

Just watched it. The AE86 may have been unmodified but I'm not sure it was salvageable. As mentioned above it was plainly obvious that the 3 cars were far from even "fair" condition. I don't think anyone would have purchased that one for any purpose more than what they did to it unless you just had money to throw away or really wanted to say you brought it back from the dead. In fact, since it said "running" clearly on the windshield I'm guessing they rescued it from a junk yard.

I seem to be in the minority in liking Top Gear, USA. No, I don't like it more than UK, and can honestly say, as a car show, I don't like it better than Motor Week, but as a "buddy type entertainment show" I love it.

Come on, is there really anyone here that would not love to get together with 2 of your best buds and do the crap they do without having to worry about ending up in jail?

Sign me up....

Exactly what @Hardrock4445 said. The ones they trash generally were on their way to the scrap heap already.
