High mount longbar brake light
Deleted the rear brakelight and installed a high mount brakelight from cjpony parts. I modified two brake light bars into one long one. Now i need some plastic to cover the holes from the old brakelight if anyone knows of a kit or what i could do to clean up that section let me know.

I used sticky back felt that can be found at craft stores or even some large department stores... Dependong on the brand, the felt may match your interior more or less than mine.
Covered the new clip and bracket with sticky-back felt. Color match looks better in this pic... __________________________________________ projekt zeal86 build zeal.eightsix Facebook Instagram @zeal.eightsix |

I didn't take pictures of the process. But I'll explain it.
I just cut off the corners and sanded it down with a small angle so the two lightbars are on a wide V angle to conform with the shape of the rear roof. The two other corners i trimmed off a little so they tuck in to the pillars better. The roof does fit the length of a straight bar but with the rear roof being curved i think it looks much sexier on a v. I was going to glue the two lights together but the two lightbars sat flush together so i left it and It most probably would be easy to tuck them into the roofliner as two separate units. Soldered the two light bar wiring together, wrapped it in electrical tape where i did the solder. Pop off the 4 popclips on the rear shelf and 3 roof popclips. Brakelight on the shelf is popped up andhalf taken off. (bottom half of the brakelight housing is glued to the shelf). Remove rear shelf. The rear shelf has 4 internal clips you have to be careful when dismantling slowly push up where the 4 pressure points are. you will deform your shelf to get it out but mine came out all ok. You could be safer and dismantle the pillars first but i couldn't be bothered with that. Bottom brake housing is held on with glue stamps on the underside, i drilled all the glue stamps out and it came off easily. snip off the old brake light connector and solder it onto the new brakelight. Clean window then Install brake light, wire cable went through the pillar, i didnt remove it i just pressed the wire in the small slot and you see no wiring. Put rear shelf back on and all the popclips and voila you now have one longbar baller executive baus raus looking brake light =). Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk |

I have the sticky felt on mine as well to cover the holes. I was thinking of getting a large sheet of felt and some spray glue and doing the whole deck eventually to cover up everything.

I've heard a '98 Cadillac STS 3rd break light (the bar on the trunk) fits really well for this application. I plan on buying one soon and giving it a go.

No offence guys - 'A' for effort and execution, but these long brake light bars just seem to overwhelm and unbalance the arse ends of your otherwise fine rides.

But I appreciate you being respectful about the discussion, as many on this forum seem rude when expressing their opinion. So thank you. MemphisR Sent from my E6883 using Tapatalk

Pics tend to exaggerate the intensity of the light, so that could be a factor in what I'm seeing.
Your rear end concerns are so valid. I installed the Intec as I fail to understand the 'logic' of having a 'high mount stop lamp' mounted on the upper trunk, trunk mounted spoiler, bottom of the rear window, or anywhere other than a significantly high point on the vehicle. The whole idea behind the high mount stop light was to enable drivers two or more cars behind to see the light activating for advance warning. I looked at the same light you installed but was concerned about it being taped to my tint - the Intec tape failed with summer heat - I found another solution to keep it in place, but what a drag. What I now want to install is the roof mounted brake light from the Ford Fusion or newer Mustang - just wasn't sure how exactly it would conform to our roof, or how to conceal the wiring (other than tucking along the window glass down to the trunk). But it's very bright even in sunlight and so low profile. |
