Get a used V1 openflash tablet for under 350$ while your at it toss in a high flow K&N filter. Flash to a stage 1 w/ the filter should add a solid 5whp across the powerband and help a little with response. But the main reason for the OFT is to datalog to make sure your afr and ltft / stft are good. You can also use it to modify throttle mapping, tip in, response, etc... this should get your DBW as close to DBC as physically possible.

There is also a procedure you can do after a fresh reflash to learn both throttle position as well as fuel trims much faster otherwise about 10 heat cycles / 100 miles is needed for everything to sort out.

there's already a K&N filter present and point taken on the OFT but that'll be a last resort if all else fails. i'd like to leave the ECU stock since i don't have any speed/power goals for the car and would like to keep it that way so i can ignore tuning or monitoring things (old guy move). I have a separate rig to tinker with and would like to keep the FRS so stock that i can have my oil changed at the dealership regularly.

huh interesting. what component in the car doesn't like bludgeoning? or are you just asserting something based on your naive perception of cars?

I know people have swapped to the metal intake manifold and done a 72mm throttle body and portmatched for increase response. Doing this will require a tune which you can tune out issues with the stock tune.

I had good experiences with low down throttle response using the oft with Wayno's DI tune for a dd application.

Skip the spring and go straight for the slave cylinder. Throttle response is hampered by VSC. It is part of the control circuit in all modes except the test mode which, ironically, exists to make the car safe for a dynamometer. Look up "pedal dance."

i seent the pedal dance and hope i can avoid using it regularly haha. what could i do for the slave? or do you mean replace the slave with a simpler/buffer one?

haha i just went through his authored posts and think i found it. knocking off the spring is free and 5-10 minutes, this requires ordering parts and stuff :p ill see if the short fix leaves me wanting more from the pedal still (it's not a stock clutch, and i would bet it requires slightly more pedal pressure than stock).

Spring removal changes one thing. It makes the pedal feel heavier. Raising the gearing on the clutch makes the pedal feel heavier because it shortens the engagement arc.

right, i'm hoping with the spring removal and adjusting the pedal slightly shorter it'll feel more familiar to me. i'm sure it's not heavy enough to bother me compared to my twin disc or custom pressure plate with 3/8" TOB fingers lol. if im still not happy with it, i'll order the CMC and spend some time following your diy guide. (thanks for that btw!)
