I didn't have the gray RTV so I used the black/high oil resistance. Full cure says 24h. I waited a few hours and hoped it was enough. Still got some leaking tonight.

Noted, let it cure as per the RTV instructions!

Removed, reseated, re-RTVed, curing as we speak.

Well, as I've written in a few other posts a week or two ago, I,too, have experienced the burning oil smell when the car sits at idle after a drive. The leak was too small to be noticeable, and the dealership missed it even though I asked them to look for it when they did an inspection for me last week, but, lo and behold, the leak was there, painfully obvious, today, just as you've all described.

Sooo.. the job is so small it ain't hardly worth humpin' to the dealership, other than to make them aware that this is an ongoing problem with the design. I probably won't bother. The question is...

Remove, clean it up, and black RTV it, or spend the bucks on the replacement part mentioned in this thread? I don't mind spending money for obvious improvement, but if a good reinstall works just as well, then I'd just as soon save the bucks.

Opinions?

Thanks..

Barry

While there have been posts of people successfully re-sealing the stock plate, there have been others that tried that only to have a leak occur again in the future. Resealing won't help the fact that the metals are of different consistency and heat up & contract at different rates.

The main advantage of the Raceseng part is the correct material, as well as the rubber o-ring. Combined with the gray gasket maker applied to small seam it seems to be a win-win.

Might be one of those situations like "do it right, do it once".

Side note: too bad all my images aren't showing up anymore in the first post. I don't think I still even have them or I would re-upload them. Sorry about that.

Nope, that looks like it's your actual timing/valve cover which definitely seems worse/more severe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Not sure if there is a TSB. They first changed the plate and reseal but I still had a leak. It was tracked to the cam cover. When my car was new it had a variable timing part replaced to fix the idle issues (ended up being an ECU fix). Seems they did a crap job of sealing it when the job was carried out

Ok ok so maybe toyota might have something on file for what's going on but no tsb but I know that they are going to fix this becuase I don't play to many bs games I'll just go through the right channels and get it done by them especially that I'm bare bone stalk
