I made this an instructable: http://www.instructables.com/id/Cust...With-OEM-Look/ (basically it is all the info here plus more detail on how you could go about doing it on your own. I tried to keep it somewhat generic as to be applicable to a lot of different cars.)

Full disclosure, and possible help needed: it is entered into this contest: http://www.instructables.com/contest/glovebox/ and I'd love to have your votes if possible. (EDIT: they say it'll take up to 48 hours to be approved and then available for voting.)

I'd buy one. maybe you should start a poll?

Just start a facebook group to sell them. Nothing wrong with that.

I could do that, but I cannot advertise here. It wouldn't be fair to the paying vendors.

You've got my vote (your OBD II gauge crushes the rest of the entries).

It isn't approved yet. There is a 48 hour a human approval process and they work normal business hours . I'll post once it's up and if it doesn't get up by tomorrow i'll resubmit.

The voting sorta-kinda doesn't mater. They pick based on 15-20 judges and the votes can sometimes make a project pop out from the rest.

I'm interested in getting a 3-D printer. It would help so much with projects like this (building enclosures and buttons and stuff like that).

You can vote now: http://www.instructables.com/id/Cust...With-OEM-Look/

It's in the upper right corner in an orange ribbon looking button. I'm really interested in the "glovebox" contest. Again, the voting doesn't seem to really mater.

I tried out a few different filter materials to see if I could make the OLED match the gauge cluster or other lighting in the car. I was not successful. It looks great at night, but you can't see much during the day with sunglasses on.

The splitter will probably work about 99.5% of the time. The CAN line gets to be a little long and you start running into some transmission errors. Especially if the shielding is crappy. In most applications (just repeat polling of OBD PIDs) you won't notice any issues though.

Too bad about the red filter, I like how that looks!
Perhaps it is possible to find out which part of the orange-red range of the spectrum the display emits in its mix to create white, and find a filter matching that wavelength?
An old school red LED usually peaks at around 630nm, but things got complicated with OLED.
Or maybe a strong yellow or orange filter will reduce enough of the blue and green light to make what's left look red?
