other drivers
Is there a thread already where we vent our anger at other drivers, stupid and incompetent? And, of coourse, we boast how great drivers are we?

There are situations like that, but there really isn't much point getting angry. Be more alert & be safe. :/

I don't need it SO much anymore, it was yesterday and I did cool down since then, but still.
I am used to people freak out in snow, yesterday evening i got a taste of what fog does to some. So I was driving on a big road: 3 lanes in each direction (plus a merge-in lane on the right at the spot where it happened), median with guardrail. And there was fog, I'd say moderately dense. One could easily see the road as far as the low beam headlight would reach in the dark anyway, or even somewhat further. There were occasional denser clouds of fog over the pavement, but they were small and of no real effect on visibility. So it looked spooky but actual visibility was pretty good. I was driving about 50 mph (which is the speed limit, normally people go about 60 there, I go 65 ;-) ). Then I see a car in front of me, in the center lane, going probably 40. OK, someone scared of the fog a bit. I moved to the left lane early to overtake. In the meantime another car appeared in the merge lane, with an obvious intention of merging into the right lane. Reminder: the first car was in the center lane, so no conflict whatsoever. Everybody was going smoothly and nicely. No other vehicles around. Now, once I was a few meters behind the first car, its driver suddenly hit the brakes and swerved to the left, into my lane. I slammed my brakes and did not hit them, I did not even had time to honk, but the screeching of tires was sufficient for them to notice, and they moved back to their lane. I am still trying to figure out what this idiot was trying to do. Did they think I was going to fast for the conditions and wanted to force me to slow down for my own good? Were they so scared that second car will suddenly jump into the center lane and hit them, and it was an evasive maneuver? And they just did not know I was there even though I was approaching them from behind for half a mile at least? I guess fog kills brain cells in some people. OK, reading my story I see I cannot really describe it well, I cannot render how crazy it was. I guess I really need a dashcam. |

Shit happens when driving just watch out and be prepared to act just like you did. We all screw up (sometimes don't even know we did) and anybody that says they don't is a liar or needs to seek medical attention for their brain injury.

Echoing what Tcoat says:
Seems like he may have been surprised by the merge-lane approaching car and reacted on instinct. Then your braking made him remember you were still behind him, albeit much closer now than he anticipated. Unfortunately these things happen more often than needed since drivers get distracted easily and only focus on the one thing they are currently looking at, whether it's the road in front, or the mirror that's momentarily reflecting brightness/blindness in their face. I'd say praise your reaction time and chalk it up to a flabbergasted driver. I used to live in Houston, and the slightest drizzle made the entire city piss their pants on the highways. |

I say 60% of people on that list are 86 owners, and a good chunk of them come from riced out civic owners and 240 douche bags. So no not everyone on here is that nice.

Maybe... But even if I was at the moment, I am sure I was clearly visible for quite a long time before. I guess checking mirrors periodically just to be aware what's going on around you is not very popular. Nor setting them properly to minimize blind spots. |

Could be or just in the moment of panic he simply didn't think of those lights. Wasn't making excuses for him just pointing out a possible scenario.
