Hood flutter at high speed
Up around 80mph, looking at the driver side "hump" I can clearly see the hood moving, compared to the fender. Around 90 the hood seems to be lifting a good 1/4" or so above the fender. Anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix for it or is this just the nature of a lightweight hood?

There was a thread on this once before. I think it was a European owner had noticed it on the autobahn. Can't find it right now tho. Maybe someone else can link it here.

I don't know how many of you spend any amount of time going that fast. Up to about 70mph, no movement, but right around 80 it really starts dancing. Very disconcerting. I wonder if a hood damper kit would help?

Haven't noticed any dancing on mine at those speeds, will try to keep an eye out for it again.

Beware, you can't unsee it. It's not really something you notice unless you are looking for it, or unless you have seen it before and know it's there, then you see it alllll the time.

LOL, I'm sure you're right! I had looked prior when a previous post like this came about but I didn't see anything that I felt was extreme.

It's an aluminum hood that's held by a latch... As long as the latch doesn't unlock, I wouldn't worry. One time I guess I shut the hood lightly and the hood popped when I was on highway. Freaked me out. haha
I doubt subaru/toyota will do anything about this unless hood flies off. |

There was a previous thread about this and a number of other members have noticed this too.
It happened to me about about 85 mph and it freaked me out so bad that I slammed on the brakes and pulled over to check that the hood was fully closed. I guess it's the nature with the twins, but in truth I've been in lighter/smaller cars that didn't do that at similar speeds. You're right though, once seen it can't be unseen.

Since no one posted the solution for this - open your hood and look on either side for the cylinder shaped rubber bumpers the hood rests on. Directly behind he headlights. They may look ordinary, but they screw in and out ( the rubber is spiralled all the way around). My guess is if you take them both out a half turn or more you will notice a huge difference in the amount the hood wiggles around.
All modern Subarus I've seen have these adjustable hood bumps for exactly this reason. They aren't exactly consistently adjusted from the factory. Enjoy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
