What's the official solution to bypassing the VSS + e-brake sensor for videos?

I've seen a couple different methods, the e-brake I suppose you just ground it in a different place?

And as for the VSS, I've seen people install a 3rd party harness? Is there a way to disable it completely or will the car freak out? I really don't want it on a switch if it's at all possible.

And this is for a BRZ Limited, not sure if that makes a difference.

Disabling it completely freaks out the GPS navigation, that is why its being done with a switch.

A simple 5 dollar relay will do it. I've posted about this before and provided a wiring diagram.

This is the post you mean?

If so, bypassing the e-brake is one thing. bypassing the VSS is another. to bypass the e-brake (in the BRZ), you just need to ground it to anywhere in the car. The VSS is a different story because of the GPS issues.

To determine your position, the GPS uses the VSS sensor, so disabling it means your GPS will not know you are moving.

I leave my bypass switch on sometimes and GPS still works. If I go through a tunnel, it gets lost though. With VSS enabled, it can figure out where I am within the tunnel without the GPS signal.

I think there may be different versions of our nav system though because others have mentioned that their GPS goes wonky without VSS and others have said disabling VSS still doesn't allow them control of head unit or ability to show movies since it still detects movement based on GPS.

What switch, or how did you do it?

No one here has been able to tell me how to do it yet. I already know what the VSS does

I put a switch inline on Pin 17 of the 20-pin head unit harness. I placed it next to the HID Projector level selector wheel, and loaded up my 32GB USB key with all of my kid's favorite movies. Now I can let her watch from the backseat during long trips while the vehicle is in motion. Before anyone starts with the "that's dangerous, you shouldn't drive with a movie playing in plain view of the driver" yeah, I know, thanks.

Any switch? Doesn't have to be a specific bypass module?

And where did you end up grounding the e-brake?

That's pretty much why I'm bypassing it as well, for my kid in the backseat

Just a plain ol single pole single throw toggle switch that I had sitting around. You've all seen them before - steel looking lever switch, sometimes has a red guard that you have to lift first to engage the toggle (like on a nuclear launch switch!)

It doesn't match the rest of the interior, but nobody can see it anyway and it responds great to switching by feel since it's out of site but has enough of a distinctive toggle feel to it so I know where it is and what state it's in.

e-brake is grounded to one of the bolts on the head unit.

I'll take a picture when I can, I'm at work and won't be home until after dark so I'll try to get one tomorrow during the day. It's exactly as I've described above though.

All of my movies are either AVI, DIVX, or MPEG. I didn't bother sizing them down from what I had them in and they work fine. There is a size limitation though, I noticed that movies over 1GB in size lock up the index search, so you have to remove those from the USB and restart the car.
