Header Back, no cats, no resonator - too loud *surprise*

So, I've had a Perrin non-resonated catback for a few years, and since going FI with the vortech kit, i picked up a P&L Header Non catted, overpipe, and non catted front pipe.

Of course, i expected it to be loud, but i did this because i got a deal on the P&L bits from a friend.

Anyways, im looking to back things off a bit.

Where's the best place to insert a cat / resonator that will have the least impact on performance but won't make me sound like 17 year old with a riced out civic?

I spoke with P&L and they suggested putting in a catted front pipe first, so that's what i have so far.

If you still have your OEM exhaust, could you cut the resonator out of the mid pipe and weld it in to your Perrin exhaust?

I do have it all. I have some time and cost isn't a huge barrier to this solution so I'd like to keep my stock bits intact. I think I'll swap the stock front pipe for the p&l one and see what that sounds like too

yeah the resonator perrin uses on their catback really helps keep the noise and raspiness down. I would start there and then look to add another resonator in the front pipe.

A JDL catted and resonated front pipe with the resonated mid pipe from perrin should quiet it down a lot

In that case I would go for a resonated midpipe. I believe its bigger then the ones in the FP and would be more effective.

Also, is this 3 inch or 2.5 inch?

I have 3.0 perrin and I think the pnl is 2.5

With the 3" putting in the resonated Perrin mid pipe may not make it a lot quieter, but it will make a big difference in how everything sounds and get rid of the rasp. Adding a resonated/catted front pipe will definitely quiet things down.

The cat on the P&L is quite small. I can't imagine you're gonna lose many decibels with it. I'd swap the 3" Perrin for a 2.5" resonated version.

Well I put the stock front pipe back in with the cat and resonator and it was much better. Still think I'm going to get that header cat also.

I had a weld shop put in a different resonator at the mid pipe of my Perrin exhaust and it sounds a lot quieter than before.
Edit: I also threw in the stock front pipe.
with an aftermarket 2.5 pipe, it does get louder...

Well After putting the stock front pipe back in (getting it a bit quieter, but still raspy above 4k) i spoke to P&L about what the next step they would recommend was. They said ideally a cat on the header would be the next best place to start, but because I am Supercharged, they worried about heat destroying that cat on the header, so we decided I would send the front pipe back to them and they are going to weld in two cats on the front pipe (lol).

As far as getting the desired effect of reducing the rasp and making it tolerable volume, we should be good to go. The only disadvantage of doing this (putting 2 in the front pipe vs one in the header, 1 in the front pipe) is that the catalyzation won't be as effective, but I live in North Dakota so who cares.

I'll update once i have the pipe back and installed.
