Family is all that matters during Christmas

So, here's a short story.

I moved to Nevada approximately June, 2011, from Buffalo, New York. My immediate family lives in NY, and I have some extended family that lives in Vegas, where I moved to.

Long story short, family and I out here no longer get along.

Well it's Christmas time, and my family back home sent me the following (as shown in picture below):

It's the little things that really get to me during the holidays. I always loved my mom's homemade cookies, the swedish fish my "dogs" would get me every year (a half pug/half beagle and a German Shepard), the Tim Horton's coffee I always loved which could only be obtained from the northeast, a gift card (which is nice, but has no heartfelt meaning) and the picture which my sister sent of her and I from last Christmas when I flew home to visit.

This really hit home this year, as it's been a very lonely holiday season...I couldn't feel farther from home and yet, these simplistic, yet meaningful items really struck me deep.

Moral of the story; cherish your family, no matter the distance. It's the little things in life that matter, and the people that have always been there for you through thick and thin.

Happy holidays and Merry Christmas to all of you.

Nice post, hope you get to see your family soon. My wife and I want very much to move to the PNW. When we do, I'm not sure how I'll do around the holidays if we can't make it back. I feel so lucky that our family is only a few hours away right now...we get to see them once a month on average...more in the summer.

Cheers

I hope you made the best of your situation and had as good of a holiday season as you could have.

I spent thanksgiving 2011 sleeping on the cold floor of a Pax terminal in Baghdad and that Christmas across the border in Kuwait so I know how you feel. I hope next year you get to spend it with your family.

Also sorry this reply is late, haven't spent much time outside of the local thread
