It's absolutely insane. I make 260 on 9 and my tune is not shit, nor is the hardware. 94 octane

I have no doubt it can be done. Just be sure to post when you blow your motor again

Lol ok, I will be sure to do that...

I would urge you to do some research on Accelerated Performance and their BRZ. My information is coming directly from the builder of their kits and of their 700+whp 1/4 mile car. In fact, the kit that is on my car is directly off of their BRZ with the exception of a few newer parts including the turbo. Don made 550whp on pump gas at ~22-24psi, which the new engine will be able to handle no problem.

I made 290 on 9psi spike and holding 8psi. 91 octane tune running 93.

I am well aware of Accelerated Performance and their initial work with Visconti. Good luck.

Spiked 20psi on the dyno a week and a half ago, PROBABLY bent a rod then. Just this past weekend the engine decided to give out during a top of 5th gear pull. Sucks.
Those boost spikes I did the same thing on my Evo 10 when I first put the upgraded turbo on it (we were doing development work with Blouch). I Had it all tuned nice and pretty on the dyno but I had not fully dialed in the EBC. Laid into it in 4th gear at low rpm on the interstate, boost spiked to 27 - 28psi before i got out of it. 1 week latter it let go on the dyno at the rev limiter. Turns out the spike had cracked a piston, it took the week and a few dyno pulls to work a chunk loose that took out a valve.

Sorry for your loss man.

A similar situation happened with a friend of mines car. While tuning the boost controller failed and caused a spike and the failsafes set in ecutek didn't kick in and a rod bent. Seemed obvious in that case that it was a software glitch in ecutek that set the entire situation off as the boost controller was being controlled by the ECU. Luckily another friend of ours had his motor in the shop getting built with forged internals so he agreed to give his stocks to our friend and our tuner didn't charge any labor for the rebuild sense it happened while he was tuning it so my friend was able to get his motor back in for the cost of the gaskets which were wholesale sense at the time my wife was working at toyota. So we were all able to band together and turn a fucked situation into something that sucked a lot less.

John and I do not get along on a personality level, due to his customer service views. Other than that, he is a very good tuner. Don trusts him a lot, and that's enough for me. I've never had a tuning related issue, only customer service related issues.
