Can't stop powersliding! Doing any harm?

Get a traffic cone, steal one like I did, and drive towards it in 2nd gear and throw the wheel left or right, whatever your preference, off throttle feather the throttle to hold the slide. DO NOT BRAKE or e-brake, thats drifting, and it's stupid. :P I do it this way to extend my slides.

Drifting can be initiated without the e-brake as well.

EDIT: Caught the brake part, but regardless, I fail to see how it's stupid.

I think power sliding is great. I did it once in the rain when making a U-turn onto a 2 lane road - then never again. I maintained control, but was not expecting the car to slide as much as it did. I ended up sliding left to right to left to right between the lanes. I was so surprised that I couldn't think to ease my foot off the gas to straighten out. Once I got it straight enough I just dumped the gas and thankfully didn't spin out.

Nope, we have torsen diff which I believe ours is designed for about 4:1 torque split. It allows pretty normal driving. If you've got lockers or really aggressive clutch diff then you get that, the drifter boys couple houses down
I'll hear them all the time making the U-turn to pull into their driveway chirping away.

With hard compound high mileage tires, pretty much any sliding, loss of traction will make a squeal. Even hard cornering where youre not sliding out yet. I had the even crappier all season tires, not the Primacy on mine. They lasted 3 years, including a number of autocross, before I finally got tired of them. According to the wear bear they still had some life.
Now running the RE71Rs, amazing difference, feels like a whole new car! You won't be wanting to power slide these though, it'll take way more speed and power to get them to and they will get worn out in no time.

It's actually less stressful than hard cornering at the limit, since tires have more grip when gripping (static friction region) rather than slipping (kinetic friction region):



When cornering hard, the car is still trying to force the wheels sideways, but with higher force due to having more grip when not sliding (static friction).

If you want to slide your car around, go attend a gymkhana event.

We just had one locally. Did an event last year and was much fun, couldn't maintain a slide though.

Had an experience like this in the spring. An exit road that is more or less an open wide hairpin bend. As usual the car encouraged me to boot it round it in 2nd.

Woooosh, screech! I'm now 70 degrees sideways looking out the side window down the road the VSC buzzing and whrring. I let the wheel spin until it thumpped into the lock and then quickly unwound it again as I was... somehow... pointed back down the road just considerably slower like down to under 20mph.

I believe the VSC saved me from going right round into a full spin out.

Looking at it, how risky was it really? The road was wide, there was nothing oncoming and on the left side of the road was a wide 'hard shoulder'. Even without the VSC saving the spin I would simply have spun 180 on the exit or if I'd over corrected and got back lash I'd have stopped on the hard shoulder.

It has however made me reconsider where and when I will push for a bit of 2nd gear powersliding. When something unexpected makes your little powerslide into a BIG one it will be awfully handy to have LOTs of room to fuck up in safely.

Bad news guys..apparently I have a punctured tire from a nail, on my rear drivers side tire.
I went after the tire dropped to 10PSI. Do you guys think this is from the power sliding, and the tire caught a nail?

seems like it depends where in the tire the nail is. up the sidewall likely so, new tire.

Oh shit, didn't know you need a new tire of it's in the side.
I'm at the dealership now and getting a patch, but I'm not sure where the puncture is located.

Do you NEED to get a new tire if the puncture is on the side, any downsides to getting a patch even if it's on the side? Thanks!

They won't repair it, and tell you why if it's in the sidewall.
Punctures are always possible even if you only move the car a couple inches.
