IIRC Kpro/Hondata doesn't support canbus capabilities. However I remember seeing AGT Engineering developing a translator for non-canbus ecu to canbus ecu for the LS platforms.

Simply an example of integration that can be applied..

Right but I guess I figure a turbo platform would be more complex so it's not comparing apples to apples

I don't think it is advertising itself as great value at all levels of power.

Anyone who wants more than 350 whp w/ typical torque (torque is what matters) for the street needs to build the motor and build the transmission, or replace the transmission somewhat often, or swap a transmission. If someone wants to heavily track the car then they will probably need to build the engine and transmission at much less power levels. A K24/S2000 transmission swap will probably prove to be cheaper in the long run for track or street at those power levels, so I wouldn't exclude this swap for the street, especially if functionality is important.

If someone just wanted a bare bones track car then I could see going a different route than Motec if ABS, traction control, stability control, heater, etc all weren't needed. In that case, the Motec would be overkill, while still offering some tuning advantages.

For a track car you don't really"need" a turn key swap kit. Mounts and maybe a header. Everything else can be a mix of stock (Honda or subi) or off the shelf aftermarket stuff. The more stock functionality you want, the more complexity and expense is added

Yea that’s why I agreed that a dedicated track car wouldn’t need this complete setup—maybe just the mounts and header. If anything I was trying to highlight that anything for the street or street/track combo will benefit if pushing over 350whp/275tq’ish, refuting the claim that this kit wouldn’t be a good value. At those power levels there is a need for a built motor and transmissions will be ticking time bombs. Consumables and reliability improvements would make the kit a good value.

Obviously these numbers are estimates based on current prices and really don't include taxes/shipping/condition/etc. I would think $12.5-15k is reasonable after sale of the stock parts. If someone has their stock motor and trans in good condition then maybe they could get $2500 for those. I could be way off. I just figured someone should start something of a list.

If someone wanted to go bare bones, B is for Build, then they could do some other engine management that was cheaper and rig up the harness themselves, so I don't know, maybe $2000 for that instead of $6k; costs would be for engine management, harness purchase/splicing costs, maybe some type of gauges or heads up display to replace the fact that the stock gauges don't work. Maybe they could do a used or cheap header and get it custom welded for $500. In that case, the total would be $8,800. If they could sell their stock parts then maybe $6,300+ in the best case scenario.

I have to think that there will be an alternative to Motec but I'm assuming that most of these swaps aren't gonna be for the daily which means that the accessories really aren't needed anyway.

There are plenty of alternatives if you don't need CAN integration. If you do then there aren't many options at all

There are a ton of options if you are going full racecar as far as wiring and ecu go. Not much of a point to make a bare bones kit since almost anyone can do that themselves and wouldn't really need a "kit". We will only make a harness and ecu package that retains all of the normal car functions, since that's not a simple diy task.

Maybe you have said it already, what other products do you forsee yourselves producing down the line, or selling, or advising:

-Mounts are made
-Headers are made
-Wiring/Motec still in progress
-What about shifter fitment? Will it line up, and if not, will you be making a kit?
-What about a custom driveshaft? Would you guys partner to get one in stock or provide specs for others to source one?
-What other miscellaneous parts are needed or might be linked or produced?

our fabricator has the mock up car and is working on shifter ideas right now

driveshaft wouldn't be a problem, we get them made locally for our other swaps

once we pick the car back up, we will start with the aftermarket accessories and list what fits well, and what doesn't.

had to change 2 plug lengths on our initial wiring harness, but that is 90% done. ecu firmware is not far off either.

Another side note, I can assure you that the Plug and Play kit for the K is going to be cheaper! The harness is a little less involved, so we were able to save a couple bucks there. I'm hoping, and can't be sure, but I'm HOPING, that the K series Plug and Play will be closer to $5200 as opposed to the normal $5995 standard price on the other 2. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, MoTeC pricing is firm and cannot be discounted per their policy, and we put A LOT of R&D into the firmware packages along with support.
