True, but most enthusiast cars here sell automatic variants in spades. The auto BRZ isn't very popular compared to the MT, but it does sell. I find it baffling that the auto STI didn't come here. I always assumed it was never made in the first place, like it never occurred to Subaru someone might want an auto STI.

Yep, in Europe no-one really talks about driving manual as a badge of pride or an enthusiast thing, because manual cars are so common, and most economy hatchbacks are all manuals. It’s mostly in markets like the USA, Middle East and Australia, with much higher ratios of automatic cars, where enthusiasts think driving ‘stick’ is some superpower.

Here's a little something I couldn't share before...

FMC = Full Model Change
BMC = Basic Model Change

Dates shown are Start Of Production @ Factory (Not dates they will be available)

BRZ Full Model Change starts production in Spring of 2021, likely as a 2022 Model. Won't make it to dealers until Summer/Fall 2021.
WRX Full Model Change starts production in Fall of 2021, likely as a 2022 Model. Won't make it to dealers until Winter '21/Spring '22
STI Full Model Change starts production in Fall of 2022, likely as a 2023 Model. Won't make it to dealers until Winter '22/Spring '23

Don't say I didn't tell ya.

Pre Covid schedule. Also the one thing that nobody ever really doubted.

Yeah, I'm still curious to see if this will stand given what all has changed.

I'd love to see them stick with it, but I still have my doubts. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

I'm also anxious to see what the next gen WRX/STI brings. Hopefully it's a GIANT leap forward considering how long they've had to complete R&D on a new platform after having stuck with the EJ for so long. I miss the days where the ~30k Japanese sport sedans were running toe to toe with the V8 german and american competitors that cost 2x as much. Now they can hardly even hold their own against the current V6 cars.

Yeah I’m pretty keen to see what they do with the WRX/WRX STI, especially going on to the Subaru Global Platform.

My wife had a 17 Impreza on the new platform. I am very interested to see how it transfers to the WRX/STi. It was outstanding at the lower HP but should really shine on the performance versions.
It is interesting that they used a lot of the design language from the BRZ in developing the global platform and steering on the Impreza.

What’s she driving these days? Do you reckon you can talk her into a new WRX? “It’s really an Impreza only better”.

BRZ/86 and the new WRX in the garage would be pretty cool, if it lives up to the hype of course.

She went up to an 18 Outback so we could tow our boat.
She does not need to have a WRX to drive 10KPH below the speed limit, panic stop if a light 3 blocks up turns yellow or drive in the passing lane for 20KM because she is making a left turn in 15 minutes.
Yes, she has become the worst nightmare old lady driver!

Lol (literally did) very good. I’m guessing she doesn’t read your posts.

PS doesn’t mean you can’t drive it.

Doesn't read my posts but I assure you I would say the same directly to her. In fact I do on a fairly regular basis when I am driving and she grabs the handle, plants her feet and screams a little every time somebody 4 block up slows to turn and I don't immediately hit the brakes. It is painful!

I really enjoyed my 2016. Definitely the best all around car I had. Plenty of space inside. Plenty quick every day. Plenty capable on a track.

My biggest problem with it ended up being that for me to keep it, I felt like I would need to shovel out like another 10k to get it where I wanted. Not in terms of power, but in terms of handling and durability, as well as interior comfort. I just couldn't really justify it.

If the new engine is close to 350hp and has better cooling and oiling and reliability, I'd be pretty interested. Also depending on how the car looks lol
