Resale Value

What are some everyday performance cars that hold their value relatively well besides the odd ball 1M?

The 1M is really all there is. We'll see how the 4C fares a few years after it's been released into the wild here.

The market for used S2000's has been strong. STI's and Evos as well. Basically any car that people aspired for a few years ago, but couldn't afford.

Any Subaru, S2000, M3s aren't bad up here in Canada, Lotus Elise/Exige, and on the hardcore side Caterham/Lotus/Birkin/Westfield 7s.

Eh?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Elise-...US_Cars_Trucks

During 2008 you could buy one for $20K!

True that the Elise/Exige have gone up a bit since then, but an ebay listing at a particular price doesn't necessarily mean it will sell for that price.

I'm convinced that in 2-5 years, a used and unmodified Twin will be a diamond in the rough.

Those diamonds will hold their value the best.

Maybe in the US you could, I have never seen one listed under $35k in Canada.

I guess it depends on new vs. used right? Plenty of used higher end cars seem to have hit the bottom, like NSX, S2000, old Porsche 911, etc.

Unless everything goes to shit a clean NA/NB Miata probably won't be losing any value anytime soon. NCs are going to take a hit when the ND comes out.

I agree with Rice, picking up a 5 year old Toyobaru is going to be a good idea unless a new generation comes out that has significant performance enhancements (i.e. FC vs FD RX7, unlikely imho).

I went with a friend to buy a used car which had some after market parts on it that weren't mentioned in the advertisement and he wasn't looking for anything modded. My friend is bit more confrontational than myself and he says to the guy..

"I'm gonna need you to knock at least $1k off the price because it's easily going to cost me that much to un-fuck this car."

I laughed so hard I snorted.

Totally agree. The NA's are already climbing in value slowly. I used to see decent NA's around here going for the ~$2k range all day about 2-3 years ago. Now the same condition NA's are going for $3.5k+. I don't even think I've seen a running NA go for less than $2.5k in the last year or so out here. I think NB's are holding steady and will increase slightly in the next few years. Some of the earlier NC's have already taken a dip.

I dunno if it's really an "everyday" car in the sense, but I think the FD's have hit rock bottom, and the Z32 TT & 3000GT VR4 of similar vintages as well. I also think the C5 might decrease in value a little more now that the C7 is starting to become more common. I think the e36 M3 has hit it's lowest point as well...
