It gets old after a while. Also, in person discussions are WAY more efficient than online discussions.

Unless it's a mix. And also, not really true once you figure out how to work it.

I'll say it again. Certain large corporations have tried to push workers remote before. On the face of it, there are all pros and no cons. Until you do it and realize it simply doesn't work in the long term. It's extremely difficult to establish a coherent team working remotely. Even with all the communication tech, it's just not as effective as an in-person discussion. I'm saying that as an engineer, and I hate talking to people.

It's not so much insanity and more like the inanity. My first reaction is that you and folks that think and behave as you do are simply too stupid to put two and two together or, simply unwilling to do the arithmetic. Personally, what I see as your flippancy and self centered approach to what I see as a very real threat to the well being of my family, friends, and neighbors reinforces that perception. It smacks of, in short - selfishness. And, I have neither affection nor tolerance for selfish people.

However, my more rational self believes there is much more to it. Many commentators and students of American society keep telling us that the polarization we see is due in part to the alternative realities in which we are living. I suspect that is one of the things that fuels the discussions in this thread.

I appears that you (and others) and I (and others) simply do not see the same world. We do not value the same things nor do we want the same future. Once that view gathers momentum it becomes far too easy to begin to think of those who refuse to accept our reality as evil and, in the final act - disposable. You see glimpses of the latter in the enthusiasm with which many among the Q-istas approach(ed) the possibility of rounding up and executing their opponents.

This is not America's first rodeo with that mindset. We see and have seen the current momentum building in this direction happening in this country for 40 years. Put together, this spells trouble for us all. Too many of the times this has happened in the past the result has been wholesale violence. We are not there but I fear we are closer than at any time in recent memory, perhaps in 160 years.

I really hope I am wrong about you. Spuds is right - these are discussions that happen most productively face to face. But. this is where we are.

Well call me stupid if you want. I mean I fly airplanes for a living it doesn't take a genius. I do have a Master's of Aeronautical Science. I took an IQ test when I was young it was 134. My GPA in college was 3.84 for my B.S. and 3.75 for MAS. However, college grades are more about the work you put into them not necessarily intelligence. Being gifted (or special) however you want to look at it might make me selfish. However, in my mind I had and spread my COVID before they even knew it was in the U.S. I'm the most exposed individual you'll ever meet and my immune system is amazing. I hardly ever get sick. Sometimes it's years I go without even a runny nose. You think I'm going to fuck with that? You think I'm going risk heart and lung conditions (I already linked the study that shows spike proteins alone can cause damage), blood clots, and now we are hearing about (preprint only not peer reviewed) about nerve damage, plus whatever else we find when the real data comes in. And what if it is true that immunization helps better with the same variant but less so than others. I'm not going be on the not dependant on yearly/quarterly who knows injections side. I'm not an anti-vaxxer, I have my childhood shots, but I'm not touching this when the risks are rampant and the reward is nothing because covid isn't going to kill me. If you're 80 whatever but I'm not messing up my immune system that is a blessing compared to most. I'll bet my chances of retransmission of an exposure are lot less than many people who have had their shots to be frank. Especially when the variants come around. Time will tell. I can wait.

We can accept that some people decline taking the vaccines.

Sitting around with acquaintances years from now, maybe having a drink, the topic will arise. You will be the guy that never got vaccinated. Cough.

If you make it widely known on social media that you decline vaccination, with all the aforementioned reasons, if there is a time in the future where you seek to change employment for example,, put it out there. You have nothing to hide, your reasons are clear, people can't judge. But be aware that people definitely do judge.

I know there is a limited supply of qualified pilots, but if the decision to hire comes down to the actual person himself (all other things being relatively equal), well...

I think that the far majority of educated people would frown at your mentality

For a guy with a 134 IQ you didn't read and comprehend a single idea did you? You took an attempt - a nominally good faith attempt - at an honest conversation and warped it into an ad-hominem attack just as you warped information about extremely rare potential side effects (a characteristic of ALL vaccines by the way - including the ones you claim as indicators that you are vaccine positive) into a complete rejection of all (not just mRNA) covid vaccines. I don't particularly care to hear your recitation of your educational credentials any more than you do mine. I'm sure you are quite brilliant. I'm sure Mensa is eagerly anticipating your application. However, your reply does nothing but make the case that my un-reasonable self was correct.

I tried. I rest my case.

The IQ topic is a funny one. I had a conversation with a man who originally became very successful from a tech startup. From a very modest background. Anyway, at the time he was in the business of buying businesses and reselling them. He said he was working with an engineering company at the time, with a whole team of engineers. He commented to me that a significant percentage of engineers, as confided by others, are in the Asperger's spectrum. So, their IQ doesn't really describe them in comparison to most people.

You should do a little less of that. Think of something you like - cars for example. I don't spend much time thinking about you guys and I like it like that.
