Here's a good review

The review largely confirms my experience with Goodyear and Michelin making the strongest performing all-season tires. While Goodyears and Michelins aren't the cheapest, they do tend to maintain performance throughout their lifespan better than other tires, so they end up being good values in the end.

Those of us that don't plan on driving in snow and only want to be able to drive it in the winter (not in snow) don't care how bad all seasons are in snow. We only care about how much we are giving up in performance compared to summer tires. And from what I read it isn't much when you buy Michelin Pilot Sport 4 All Seasons. That's what I am going with. Expensive, but good.

If u don't get snow, that is definitely not winter lol IMHO of course

I live in St. Louis. We definitely get snow. But I will not be driving it in the snow. I have 2 other AWD Subarus for that task.

I just want to be able to drive it all of the other cold days in our Winters that are not snowing. Which is most days.

Many are in the same position as me. We just can't use summer tires in the winter.

The BRZ is gunna be an absolute blast in the snow. Sure, AWD is better for that yes, but who doesn't love winter snow drifting in a BRZ? Cmon be adventurous lol

If they push the limits that far, eventually those limits will push back. Just don't push them that far in winter when stopping power is at a premium lol.

I have the Pilot Sport AS/3. I got them for the sub zero mornings we have here now and then. Not much grippier in the cold than the summer tires, and noticeably worse in the dry than the Primacies. In the rain, it's a wash. But I haven't tried the 4 version as they were not out when I got the 3s. Also wear was not noticeably better. Actually, I have two Pilot AS/3 as the rears wore down to the threads. Woops. Should have rotated more often, but then how many wheel studs do I want to replace?

Wouldn't a high performance all-season tire be the ideal tire in cool, rainy conditions? So it's not useless, just not good in hot/dry or cold/snowy. If you live in a place that rarely has those conditions but is often mild temperatures and wet are there rain specific tires that are better? When I had my STi in the high mountains of Colorado my summer tires were the highest performance all-seasons I could find because that car rarely saw temps above 75°, frequently saw 32-55°, and saw about as much wet pavement as dry. For winter I had a set of snow tires on other wheels.
