Hot Lava question

I ordered a hot lava FR-S. But once I seen the actual color on xB and iQ. It looks totally different from FR-S.

So my question is hot lava on FR-S a metallic color?? Since I saw the other two are not metallic. And I know all the cars in photo and even JDM market photo are metallic. The color looks lighter than the other two I saw. Please help!!

I've seen all three in person wearing Hot Lava and they all looked the same to me. The only exception was 2008 RS1 xD. The Hot Lava on that one appeared a bit more orangey, IMO.

I do believe the paint code is different on the Hot Lava as is the actual colour, it just has the same name, but they are similar. Also they look different under different light so you need to see it, under lights, at night, and in the sun to really get a good sense of its true colour. I love it!

Peter, posting pictures of my car have certain 'costs'.
Please ensure that there is a trunk mat on board when I pick it up on Tuesday.

Seriously though, the colour looks better in person than most photos I've seen.
No mistake on the Hot Lava... best colour of the bunch, imho.

Did u get the LAVA Yet???? I almost got this color and i took alot of pics and looked at it for over 2hrs at the dealer - it is very very nice. its definitely a guy color and its got a dark hue to it sometimes -- heres some pics but as you can see - it depends alot on what light you see it in -- i saw it on a cloudy day and it just looked fantastic. in the end , i chose the BLK one but only by a little...

Good choice !!

I was told that the HOT LAVA colour is the same for FRS & XB, IQ. The FRS has a different number because the paint codes are Subaru codes?

You're exactly right. The FRS is painted with Subaru factory supplier colors and not the same as supplied to Toyota. Colors are similar but there is a difference. The "whiteout" for the FRS is slightly yellower than current Toyota's bluish tinted white used on many Lexus and Toyota this year, and the FRS Whiteout is closer to the older Lexus color of Crystal White used before 2007. And, it should be an exact match for Subaru's Satin White Pearl used on Legacy and BRZ.

They are the same 'grade' of automotive paints so there is no concern of it being inferior in longevity or other factors, but do be careful for painting and matching accessories and other parts, and to match it to existing Subaru color codes if the FRS specific color codes are not available from suppliers here in the USA.

This is not a scheme or cost cutting as much as the fact that this car is assembled at Subaru's factory, where a few other cars are also built on the same line, such as Legacy, Forester, and the micro Sambar. And it is rather simply more convenient to use the same painting facilities and logistics, not only to speed up the production, but also assure quality control of not having to mix more colors or setup more color processes at the production level to make things very complicated than it needs to be.

So which mean the paint is a metallic n lighter shade than hot lava on xB n iQ. Since no matter hoe many times I look at the picture, or videos. Always gives me an impression it is different.
