Should I dump a gallon of methanol in the tank? Will that be a guarantee?

4500 miles without. first oil change at 1000 after the sub 4k break in.

it is driven after the idle drops with the stock tune on a 100% stock car.
I keep it below 3k until the coolant reaches the midpoint on the gauge and then below 4k for 10-15 more minutes to heat the oil.

I stay out of the 'torque dip' zone. in town, I stay below it, and once on the open road she stays nailed for many many miles. after the break in period, I seated the ring lands with the right foot after the oil was up to temp. I keep the oil at full and it has used less and less per fill up. cant say zero usage yet but its close. each drive averages 75 or more miles and pretty much zero time at idle.

she is due for the second oil change. I will probably just do it myself as the dealer is at 65 bucks while the EZ30 is still just 40.

I'm surprised not more users complain this engine sounds like an old air cooled VW or Porsche 912 when revved.

Haha, I nicknamed mine black beetle when I got it.. Engine sound reminded me of my old roommates 74 super beetle.

..Never cared about the crickets either. They went away after about 15k and never came back.

OHHHH I wouldn't.

I can pretty much bring them on at will by just going to certain stations when it is hot out. Conversely of course I can avoid them by staying away from the same places. So far this year I have not used the fuels I know will cause them and have been chirp free even on the hottest days.

Found a station. Have been buying there since about my last post on this thread and all I can hear are injectors. Even with the recent 90 degree heat I'm not hearing them. Going to get some gas from a different station to see if it's just my hearing going bad.

Well, running ethanol free took care of the problem for a while but the good times didn't last and my buggy friends are back. I did figure out a guaranteed solution though. There's this little round knob in the middle of the dashboard, if I push it then turn it at least one full revolution to the right the crickets seem to go away. I think they don't like the Sirius channel Deep Tracks

An older mechanic friend told me one time if you hear a new noise in your high-performance engine, turn the radio up till you can't hear it anymore. When you can no longer drown out the sounds...get a louder radio.

Nope. It's all case-by-case. Some people swear by ethanol-free gas. Others swear by E85. Some say Chevron. Others say Shell. Some do a fancy little dance before starting their car every time in an attempt to appease the Cricket Gods.

There are no guaranteed fixes.

I thought I was the only one doing fancy dances.

Hey, they do kind of resemble that whistly exhaust!

I originally said I had no crickets on the poll. Things changes this spring after taking it out of storage.

At first, when the noise started, I was thinking no problem they're not that loud.

They became even louder. Still, not horrible.

THEN, the noise became very loud and embarrassing. Some may think that's a bit over the top, but when you can hear a high pitched noise with the windows UP, that's embarrassing to me. I was only embarrassed because I pride myself in looking after the car and it sounded like a bad belt only worse.

I have ran two tanks of fuel with 2oz of 2 stroke per tank and the have completely gone away and come back a little sometimes. Nothing loud, so I'm very happy about that. The last two tanks I ran were in hot weather too.

Crossing fingers it stays that way and thanks for the info!
