Hello everyone! I just recently became a member after a month or so of stalking the forums. I bought my 2013 FR-S used in July. I’ve wanted this car for a long time and was excited to find the exact one I wanted. It was really cool to see that AZ has an active 86 community and I can’t wait to get out to some of the meets. I got all sorts of plans for the car already and would appreciate advice on good shops around the PHX area.

Going to look at picking up some TRD lowering springs and sway bars when I get back into town. Who has the best price in the valley?

Also, still haven't seen any 86's here in London.

I've been getting a CEL intermittently the last month-seems to happen when accelerating/revving to 4k in 2nd gear. I have OFT and now has occurred when running 2 different stage 2 tunes as well as stock tune and finally in stage 1 tune a couple of days ago. I've check for an ECU code with the OFT the last 2 times and it said there were no ECU fault codes, but last pm I checked again and got code P0351. Searching the forums this seems to be a fairly common issue with coils on cylinder 1. Cleared code and was able to trigger CEL again easily this morning driving to work by revving to above 4k in 2nd (also last few times when CEL comes on the traction control light comes on briefly and then goes off). I will call the dealer today. Was just there last weekend for routine service.

Could be a bad ignition coil like ez's car just had.

Yeah just have the dealer replace it. Of course remove anything that would void the warranty first. OFT maybe.

Or just pay the 100$ for the replacment

http://www.toyotapartszone.com/oem/t...003-04670.html

That's what the dealer replaced on mine.

Took my FRS in for its first service. I've also been getting lot of burnt clutch smell when I push 2nd gear past 4k rpm. They just called and said they can't duplicate that and there seems to be no problem. I get this issue pretty much every day now.
Is this normal? I've never had a clutch smell like this in a car before, but this is my first "sports" car. Is there something I can do to fix it, other than staying below 4k?

Thanks

I sting out second every time I am spirited. No clutch smell, but a torque dip feel. I've been hearing engine chatter but get no CEL population. It sounds like the valves need to be re-checked for clearance, to be honest. Dealer said it was fine with they returned the vehicle which has thankfully been about 2 weeks. (First full 2 weeks without having to go back since I bought it)

My assumption is the clutch could be sticking, floating, or not fully disengaging in some manner or another while under a spirited load but the dealer should be able to replicate all of those.

Have you adjusted your clutched at all? It's actually VERY easy with a shorter 12mm wrech and if you're like me and adjusted to grip lower, then you may have it too low. If I remember correctly it should never be lower than even with your brake. (I want to say that's a 3/8 turn of the adjuster once loose.)

There was an oil drip issue I believe that mimicked a burnt clutch smell. There was a thread on it. I think @chrisbfrs had it.
