First time this happened to me...

A friend compared the "over-hyped" BRZ to a Cobalt SS...*sigh*

I don't know what it is about Cobalt owners, they all seem to have a chip on their shoulder. I wish people could just be happy with what they have and not have this need to prove that it's better than everything else.

I went through a long list of differences...not sure if it got through to him or not. But I completely agree. I know 2 people that have or had a Cobalt SS and they both swear that its one of the greatest cars ever produced. I guess they have never driven a.....well anything else :P

The Turbo model really is a great car if you look past the terrible interior (except for good seats). Held FWD 'Ring record for a while. 14.1 stock, flat foot shift, launch control, usable back seat. Nearly bought one a while back but I was tired of owning rattling GMs

From a performance standpoint, I don't see the problem here. A 2009 Cobalt SS ran the Nurburgring in something like 8:22, which is a very good time for a 4cyl vehicle with 250 or so HP. I'd be quite happy with the BRZ running it in that same time.

Lap time, I'm not sure yet, but it should be around the ballpark

that cobalt stomps the s2k regularly in scca runoffs and i dont see you complaining about the comparisons between the brz and the s2k. maybe the cobalt owners are stupid, i wouldnt really know, but i dont see how a post like this makes you any better. at the very least they have the significantly faster, significantly cheaper car.

Maybe some day you will realize there is more to a car than numbers. If all you care about is getting the fastest lap times for your money, fine go buy a Cobalt SS. It's a free country. I don't see the part of the post where he's trashing the Cobalt SS, rather the Cobalt owner was trashing the "overhyped" BRZ. People don't complain about the comparisons to s2k because they were designed for similar purpose, driver enjoyment. Cobalt SS is just another econobox with a good turbo motor, and yet every owner seems to think it's the best thing since the 911. People are blinded by numbers, they think if a car makes more hp and faster laptimes for less money, it must be better right? And yet if you actually drive the Cobalt and then drive the BRZ which do you think most people would chose, even if the BRZ costs more?
