U can, but odds r u can blow up the fa20 quite easily

TOB issue was resolved in the later model, but mine died on me right at 50k... My previous cars had 150k on the original TOBs when I sold them..

I would like to see those odds quantified! I did some research on this when I bought my car before I started tracking it, thinking I'd end up getting one as that seemed to be the conventional wisdom, but IMO the "need" to run an oil cooler on these cars is way overstated. 270F to 275F isn't a problem for decent synthetic oil, and that's as hot as my engine oil ever gets at the track even with ambient temps above 90F Running at least 5w30 is a good idea at those temps though.

Others have done oil analysis pre- and post-track usage without an oil cooler hand haven't found degraded oil or elevated amounts of wear metals. i might start doing that...

I don't think an oil cooler is a requirement for a "casually" tracked FT86 (say, once in a while HPDE usage with 15-20 minute stints).

The CTR is bada** but it can have issues on the track also. Some people on here have mentioned front tires overheating (not a mechanical “flaw” per say but it’s an issue), engine overheating issues, and some gearbox problems. Also the oil dilution issue but I haven’t been keeping up with that. I love the CTR don’t get me wrong, it’s a perfect daily driver, occasional track weapon.

I’m guessing you were saying that sarcastically?! The CTR on that list isn’t going up against any slouches in that grouping that’s for sure. And I’m not sure how Mustangs and Camaros get bunched in there.

Cars get points based on mods and tires, so the musclecars in his class are either similar power/weight or they are on lesser tires.

But anyway, check CTR times vs. stock power-level BRZs in T60

And I know a bigger heavier muscle might have some disadvantage on a tight course. Although they have become much better handlers.

Do 86’s and BRZ’s beat CTR’s?! In that class?That’s awesome if so! I honestly don’t know much about the different SCCA classes so that is good to know. And I won’t be trading in my FR-S for a CTR any time soon (or ever). But I respect what Honda achieved.

If you're going to be tracking a CTR, you most definitely do not want to remain stock cooling for very long. However, if you are only going to be tracking once or twice a year, the stock car will be rock solid, unless of course you treat it like a track prepped machine on those days.

People tend to forget the CTR is a street car first and track car second, but I guess you can kind of blame Honda marketing (or literally all marketing) for that one.
