This commission I built for my son's boss a few years ago is one of my favourites since he took real pictures not using a phone potato.

It was fun because I built the plane and the base but it still needed something so I grabbed a random figure out of a bomber set. Painted it up and went to attach to the base and noticed the dude in the picture.
Looked at the figure.
Looked back at the picture.
Looked at the figure.

Holy shit!

Uncanny isn't it? I literally just grab a figure that had the right sort of pose.

That's because it's the "Did you know I'm a pilot? Yeah I'm pretty awesome." pose. But the figures face and haircut looks exactly like the dude, which is crazy.

All the things I ordered are starting to come in. Surprised I got the wheels so quickly considering they came from Japan. Also, didn't know Amazon has international sellers in the US site, so majority of the paints I ordered are coming from Taiwan...

I am frequently shock at how fast this stuff can show up from Japan or China. Order something from Detroit and it takes 8 weeks.
Order the same thing from China and it is here in three days.
The other strange thing here is duty. If I order something made in anyplace but the US, Mexico or Canada it is subject to duty. If the item comes directly here from any country other than the US I rarely get charged the extra fee. If I order a Japanese made kit from a US retailer I almost ALWAYS get charged duty. It is the customs guys at the border that decide when to bother charging so it isn't the US shops doing it.

That sucks. So are Tamiya kits more expensive up there, even if bought locally, since they aren't made in North America? That duty tax must make hobbies more expensive there.

They are twice the price. All modeling things are since the volume is so low. If you can even find a place to buy it now since they have all closed.
Whenever I go on vacation I make sure I have luggage space for kits. Also scout out any possible stores within a reasonable range of where I am. Just ask @Ultramaroon since I have dragged him through a couple of shops.

This was after the first coat of primer. Did 3 light coats. First coat of the base color didn't come out of the can as smoothly as the primer. A little bummed about that since it looks like some parts are going to be spotty. Unless the 2nd and 3rd coats will even it out.

Put the can in warm (not hot) water for a few minutes before painting. Stay at least 6 inches back and use short strokes starting and ending off the model. It will even out.
