Help! I want a turbo kit for my BRZ
So I have a decent fund going on for this car now. My goal for this car was for 500 whp (maybe I can get that now but that can always wait) I have a 2013 Subaru BRZ limited AT and I would like to turbo it for around 5k (I can do more if I really have to) What's my best option and what is everything I need?

If your goal is 500 whp it'll be easier and maybe cheaper to buy a Mustang or Camaro and mod that instead. $5K is only the entry fee for that rabbit hole.

^ what he said. honestly at 5k. your only option is the SBD turbo kit. and with an E85 kit an injectors and tune. youd be closer to 6000. and only at around 400whp. plus at 500whp with a stock block. you're a ticking time bomb. So when the motor blows. expect to spend another 8000-10000 for a built motor. Plus you'd need a bigger turbo than a 20g that the SBD kit uses. So you'd be better off with a kit that uses a GTX3076r. with a built motor and lots of boost and e85. you should see 500whp. now can the rest of the car handle it?
I think you're looking at just north of 20,000 for 500whp. |

They actually came out with a bigger turbo kit that utilizes a GTX3076r size/style turbine. its an extra $500 or so. Can get everything all in minus the stuff for E85, but includes literally everything else including tune for $4200(provided you already have an Ecutek or OFT) But to the OP, as others have said 500rwhp on a stock motor is just a time bomb waiting to go. Would need way more on top of just a turbo kit to be at that figure reliably, and also requires access to E85.

The biggest problem here is that over 210-250ft/lb of torque, the automatic transmission will start slipping.

Yeah I need to put mine on a dyno before I see about increasing the boost for this exact reason. So far no slippage for me

Not sure of the exact torque range, just threw out what I could remember.

I also agree with all that has been said. However if you manage to get a turbo kit with a garret gtx3076r and only run it on low boost (8 psi) you should be fine to not build the motor or transmission yet. Yes it will suffer a little bit of turbo lag but if you manage to get a twin scroll manifold this will be reduced by a few hundred rpm.
At a later date when you are used to the 300hp you will get on low boost you can save for a motor build so you can finally get the most out of your turbo

Right now I am at 10psi and estimating 280whp range based on my buddies SC FRS. It wont be till spring when I get it on a dyno though :/
