3" Perrin Resonated Cat-back w/ 3" Nameless Catted Downpipe

I'd like to know what sort of sound you could expect from the setup in the subject. I'm looking for an exhaust system that meets my requirements below, and I'm having a hell of a time. Perhaps because my requirements are too restrictive and there's no solution that satisfies them all.

I'm looking for:

1. 3" system to suit a F/I setup in 2 years time.
2. Make power gains and sound great for the 2 years it will be N/A.
3. Don't want to replace and re-buy parts. (I.E. buy 2.5" DP now, and buy 3" later)
4. Not be too noisy at any stage in the game.
5. Not be too quiet at any stage in the game.
6. Be suitable for a bad ass catted header if I decide to ditch my F/I plans.

Currently, my best guess at the system that fits the bill would be this:

Phase 1: Perrin 3" Resonated Cat-back exhaust. It's a little tamer than other exhaust sounds out there but sounds decent and allows more aggressive stuff on the front end since it's so heavily resonated.

Phase 2: Nameless 3" catted Frontpipe/Overpipe combo. As I understand it, that product will also have a second resonator when it is released shortly (this week Ryan@Nameless told me!) The reason I don't go full Nameless 3" is it's probably too loud even with the stock header. And I'd have to live with it for 2 years. Definitely too loud with a header which violates requirement #6.

Phase 3: Turbocharger (most likely) or Header (if I wuss out). The turbo would significantly quiet the exhaust, while the header would make it louder.

Thus, my original question, is how loud would the post-Phase 2 exhaust be? I need to know the starting point for application of turbocharger or header. The closest info I can find right now are the sound clips below. Both are using a Borla header and a Perrin 3" front pipe which I would guess is damn close to the Nameless in terms of performance and sound. I'd go Nameless because a) The Nameless is a one-piece OP/FP and b) because the Perrin isn't available anymore. Problem is I can't find any clips without the header. If I went with a header in my phase three, I'd go catted so I wouldn't expect my system to be as loud as the clips below. Also, the Nameless downpipe has a resonator I believe.

What do you guys think? Do I gotta ditch some of my requirements?

If you can hold out, ARK will be releasing a 3" system in the spring which will be very good for FI. This will have a 3" test-pipe as well.

As for headers, turbo systems (if you go down that route) don't use headers and come with a proprietary exhaust manifold. You would just need an over-pipe.

I'd suggest, Perrin over-pipe (best fitment to date for over-pipes), hold off till spring for beast-mode ARK 3" system. I'll have the ARK details as the become available

Thanks for the reply!

How aggressive sounding is the ARK? I'm looking for something that's really not that aggressive, with no rasp nor drone.

I was aware of that for the headers - that's why the headers vs turbo system was a mutually exclusive option. Not sure if I made that clear.

No problem!

This sounds like a sales pitch..however not the case lol. ARK actually specializes in removing all or almost all drone (they have external resonators, check it out for the current 2.5'' system):
http://www.dsgperformance.com/ARK-Pe...ystem-BRZ-FR-S

The DT-S is slightly louder. The above is the GRiP system. Both are tuned exhausts meaning the exhaust note is very refined.

Let me know if you need any other info, I'm here to help!

Cheers,
J

did you hear any kind of set up in person? everyone's loudness is different.
I would meet some local members have setup that close to your requirement and hear in person.

The thought process and design behind our 3" exhaust was to make it for the forced induction kits.

We have had plenty of customers now who have installed our 3" exhaust with catted headers and absolutely love the sounds they produce together.

If you do decide to go the turbo route, the exhaust will get a tad quieter once your turbo kit is installed.

Above is a video of our 3" exhaust on a turbo'd car with a header.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!

You have discontinued your 3" cats and test pipes though, making it not possible to get a full Perrin line. Are you planning on bringing them back?

Currently running the nameless 2.5" and Perrin 3" catback and love the sound. If all goes as planned, I will be installing the Namesless Header with 3"over/downpipe combo at the end of the year.

Prior to purchasing the Perrin 3" Catback I ran tthe Greddy SP Elite for about a year with the Nameless over/fronpipe and that sound was satisfying also.

My only concern is that the Perrin would be a little too tame with a turbine in there. Is the member of the turbo'd car you posted a user on these forums? I'd love to hear a drive-by clip of that car. Sounds more aggressive in cabin than I expected!

You are correct in regards to us discontinuing our 3" frontpipe. However, the OP was asking about our catback if I am not mistaken, which is not going anywhere anytime soon!

Yes, the video is from an FT86 member! @jamesm can probably give you more feedback than I, as that is his vehicle.

But he is asking about overall sound so front pipes, and full setups for his future FI goals are relevant. I really liked the sound of the full 3" Perrin including the cat but it's not available. The Perrin 3" cat-back does have a nice sound.

If you're willing to go single exit, the Tomei is a really beasty sound exhaust and the Expreme 80 is 3" designed for FI.

No single exit for this guy, and you're right Jason, I am looking at the frontpipe as well, but I'm fairly certain I would pair the 3" Nameless unit with it. I just want to hear what it sounds like! No one has done that exact setup and it seems like a good one.

Also, comparing my planned setup to jamesm's setup, the 3" Nameless frontpipe/overpipe should give just a kick of extra aggressiveness to the tone, no? He's running 2.5" frontpipe and overpipe if I'm not mistaken.
