Whiteout/ Pearl paint issue: Metal panels not matching plastic/ rubber panels?
I've read in a few different threads that the paint doesn't match perfectly when comparing side fenders to front bumper, etc. Can anyone confirm? I've noticed in a lot of whiteout pictures that the bumper doesnt look like it matches the hood that well too.
Just wanted your opinions guys! Thanks, EDIT: Would the same go for firestorm (red) paint as well? Thanks Last edited by jbsali; 01-29-2013 at 04:28 AM. |

Panels will never ever match on bumpers on any car

Won't match 100%. Paint on ABS vs metal and the fact they need to use a flex agent on the bumpers makes matching harder.

Plus, they're usually painted on a separate line. While the paint may have started as the same batch, like Burrcold stated, they use a flex agent.
Not only that, but even a variance in the way the color coat gets applied can have an effect on how the pearl reflects light. |

Yeah mine is that way, really annoying. The tow hook cover is a different color than my front bumper too which looks odd

Another one with Whiteout and it is normal especially when dim (but not too dark) lighting. But outside in sunlight, it looks natural just because of the bumpers' natural lines and paint depth.
Although it's a different paint, my Blizzard Pearl White Prius also has a slightly noticeable difference in color. |

would this still be a problem in regards to other colours? I was thinking about red as my backup

Every color will have the issue to some degree. It's usually most obvious on white and silver cars, black being the hardest to tell. I've seen red cars where the matching is bad, but I haven't noticed on these cars. Keep in mind the more pearl in the paint, will also cause a potential for variance.

They can also do ever-so-slightly different shades because certain vehicle viewing angles have you looking at some panels strait on and others at an angle simultaneously.

I don't notice it in real light on mine at all. That being said, photographs can sometimes be misleading because of how the camera processes the light. Often it will make it look more severe.
Toyotas used to be terrible with the reds on the bumpers and other plastic parts fading differently and more quickly compared to the metal. I don't know if they've gotten better in recent years though. |

I have had Hondas that looked better after they were re-painted.
Mass produced cars these days generally have turd bumper to panel paint match.

just like everyone said, the paint is exactly the same throughout the entire car but the fact that the bumpers are plastic as opposed to metal makes it noticeably different in certiain lighting and angles.
