I see what you are saying though, from a mechanical/engineering perspective, a factory solution is always better.

Last time I won the lotto (gift for my birthday) I ended up with about $15, so I would keep my car as use the winnings to, um, buy some fuel? Maybe....

I believe the Mrs paid about $50 for the ticket, so, infact, the last time I played the lotto game it cost me $35 for the privilege

LOL, gambling is for mugs..

Since I don't play lottery, there is no way this dream would come true but if it did:
* I would give my BRZ to one of my friend who likes it a lot.
* I wouldn't change my home, but buy the surrounding empty fields and build a nice track for myself and for the city I live. There is no track here.
* For family trips, I'd buy a Tesla suv thing, or something else if there is a safer one.
* For going to work and using for the track days, I'd buy a 488 Pista. This one exactly:

This^
The point I was making is that many miss the fact that their whole outlook on thins would change if they had that much money. Easy to sit in their current situation and think "cool I could buy better coil overs" when once they have the larger range of options available that would probably change in a hurry. It is hard for us poor folks to even conceive of how our ideals would change when we can do things so radically different.

Those are very rare, only happened twice and that is after they changed the lottos so they have even longer odds and cost twice as much. The tenth highest was around $580M, so it goes down quickly.

The $150M range is fairly frequent, but usually follows a period of several weeks with no winner. The US has two large regional lotteries with two drawings each a week. There is no "national" lottery as they are all state or multi-state sponsored.

We are back to the spending thoughts. With $100 million you could buy a $1 million car and only spend 1% of the cash. The whole concept of saving money by modifying a cheap car just goes out the window when we are talking that much money.
How many people here can honestly say that a Twin is their complete and total dream car and there is nothing else they would have got instead if they had $1 million cash in hand?

One of my uncle won a great lottery when I was a teenager. It was a great money. The bank gave him a BMW 3 something as a present because he had chosen their bank. It was mind blowing, since a BMW 3 series is one of the greatest cars that you can see on the streets on those years. Everybody was shocked for the amount of money he had win.

In 10-15 years time, that money vaporized. Last time I've heard about him, he was in a worse position before he won the lottery, with lots of dept. Easy come, easy go.

I think similar stories prompted many states to change their rules to allow winners to remain anonymous.

Supposedly most winners are ruined by their own families and "friends" feeling entitled to share in the winner's good fortune...while it lasts.

It doesn't have to. The shows represent a tiny percentage. Many of those people were dumbasses to start with and just became dumbasses with money for a short while. They win $1 million and think that it will last forever. It won't. Now $100 million is actually pretty hard to spend fast but it can be done if you are very foolish. Studies show that lottery winners as a whole do actually end up better off if they have even a little restraint and seek professional management assistance.

True, I should've said "of those who come to ruin".

OTOH, there's a cable series called American Greed showing what can happen to people who trust (usually charismatic) professional money managers who go rogue and prey on people's greed from all social strata.

As a wealthy self-made friend says, "At the beginning of a transaction, one party has the money, the other the experience. At the end, the one with the money has the experience, the other has the money."

Yep things can go dreadfully wrong if the help is helping themselves. Like everything else we always hear the horror stories since they are interesting but nobody ever wants to listen too "Won the lottery, invested wisely, spent carefully and now I am set for life". It just isn't entertaining nor makes people feel superior to here that so it hides in the back.

The formula followed by most 24/7 cable news shows.

Then there's the opposite extreme of Facebook, Instagram, etc. social media ultras who wind up depressing the wannabes.
