Strut Bar Testing

Friday funday... a pic from some destructive testing of our strut braces. Deformed ends and creaking carbon fiber means as a whole these things are strong! The weak link is almost always the interface (bond) between different materials, but the high-end epoxy and design gave our 10 ton press a bit of a struggle before finally giving in.

Interesting. Are carbon strut bars a cosmetic thing? It's not a significant weight savings on a street car and the kinds of people who mod their cars wouldn't want to take grip away from the front, if there's a significant difference in stiffness.

They certainly do look great compared to the stamped steel units. They've grabbed attention at every event we've been to this year.

As far as stiffness goes, there's really no way to test, because you don't know on what planes or axis the chassis is moving under side loads. Although, comparing design, manufacturing process, and materials, the carbon fiber units will be far more rigid than the OEM units. One can only speculate how this would improve chassis stiffness and performance, but it certainly won't be worse than OEM

Also be far lighter than solid steel bars and stronger than tubes.

What’s the laminate under the cosmetic wrap? Is it mostly unidirectional?
