Clutch pedal feels rough
Hi all, I have a 2016 brz with around 17k miles my clutch when i press it or out slowly it feels rough or its like scraping something in a sense. This only happens when the car is on though. When the car is off it feels perfectly fine. I looked online and some say to grease the cyclinder? and on a honda someone had the same issue and it was the release guide not being lubed enough? Was wondering if anyone had anything like this. I also did the clutch adjustment recently to just above the brake.

I thought it was the tob but I wasn't 100% sure because it wasn't making any noises.

My car has this feeling as well, but not all the time. I have a 2018 with 17k miles, when I had scheduled maintenance done, I mentioned it to the dealer, they looked at it and said it felt normal to them.
It doesn't make any sounds, and I only feel the grittiness when shifting at low RPM's. I'll just keep an eye on it I guess, some days I swear its smoother than others. |

TOB. Eventually it will make noise.
Then it will make different noises you can change by adding pressure to the pedal. Then it will make noise all the time. Then it will make one more really big noise. Then it won't make any noise because it won't work anymore. Do not wait too long like some idiot I know did or the cost of repairs go up considerably. Believe me!

TOB and the snout. When that thing gets slightly scored it makes the clutch feel like shit. Get them changed before, like Tcoat says, it becomes a bigger issue.

I know I'm digging up an old thread here, but wanted to post a resolution to my issue should someone find this post.
My clutch feeling did continue to get worse, brought to Subaru specifically for the issue. They looked at, confirmed this time it felt off, they even noted a scraping sound on release before taking anything apart. They took the transmission out, and confirmed the throwout bearing had failed. Spoke to the service manager who worked on the car, was told the grease was dried up, so it wasn't spinning right and also binding on the shaft when pressing the clutch. He said "he's never seen grease dry up like that" and so the bearing failed, probably would've totally eaten itself over time - like the photos above. All was covered under warranty, they installed a new bearing, clips and greased everything up. I specifically asked about the snout and fork, and was told they're completely fine, with no visible wear to other components, it was the bearing itself that failed due to lack of lubrication. Since then, my clutch feels significantly better, almost like when I bought the car new, hoping this new bearing doesn't suffer the same fate as the old one. Being a 2018, I should've had the updated bearing from the factory, but sounds like I had the same issue many others have had with earlier models. |
