Bummer about the allergy. I guess good to know there is more than sushi. We always figured, if my wife and I ever made it to japan, I would gain 20 lbs, and she would lose 20.

It's been a pain in the ass. Though somehow it's gradually beginning to stop causing symptoms the past year or so. Even on the trip the main symptom only happened once. I was a little worried it'd happen more.

A lot of people have been telling me I definitely lost weight while I was gone. It's kind of odd because I honestly wasn't eating so much healthier than normal. Sometimes even more sweets and things, especially at night (convenience store pick-up/to-go desserts are amazing for what they are).

But on the other hand my phone says I was walking on average 10 miles per day most days. So I'd assume that had something to do with it.

Well, they look like interesting dishes - but I don't want to know what's in them -

Soups were usually different styles of ramen or udon. It sounds silly if you mostly know of ramen as the basic stuff we get at the store here, but in Japan they can be incredibly gourmet with some soups being the result of 24+ hours of cooking, etc.

Katsu curry was nice, basically fried pork over rice with a curry sauce. I forget the entire history of how it winded up being a Japanese cuisine, but I think it's originally from the West/India. But it's waaay better than Indian curry and quite different. More of like a gravy, sometimes with vegetables in it. Very tasty as a comfort food for cold days but also just a yummy dish.

Gyukatsu I described a few posts ago, but basically beef cutlet that's been slightly fried for crisp edges, and then you sear/cook it to your preference; usually that meal included a cabbage salad with an amazing sesame dressing and other items (miso soup was one of them).

The octopus one was a street food from Kyoto. Tasted way better than it looks, lol.

Anything else just ask I guess .
