The Pace - Nick Ienatsch

The Pace 2.0

It makes an incredible amount of sense.

Not that I have a lot of passengers, just my mom, sister and brother-in-law once in a while. None of them get sick, even riding on track or autocross with me although my sister doesn't like riding in my car for long because she has a chronic back injury and she finds the seat and suspension hard on her back.

Yes, it does. In the early 70s, my riding buddies and I came up with something very similar. The rules were almost identical. The big difference was you had to keep all parts of your body in your lane. If an apex put you up against the double yellow you had to keep your head in your lane. I suspect we were far from the first. We just called it 8/10ths touring. When the CW (actually Motorcyclist) guys published "The Pace" we patted ourselves on the back and commented on what trendsetters we were.

It worked - in the years leading up to TBDRMSAO** (2016) no one in that group or one of its successors ever crashed. It works wonderfully in cars as well. That said, running the "twisted sisters" or the "tail of the Dragon," or the Angeles Crest at "the pace" will still be hard for a number of passengers to "stomach." My approach is to try to be sensitive to passengers' reactions or ask in advance and adjust my personal "Pace" accordingly.

** The Bitch Done Run My Sorry Ass Over - and ended my motorcycling career.

Will think more about this technique as it’s obviously better than what I do.

I did a lot of "The Pace" riding when I had a street bike. I feel like the Twins don't have enough engine braking to really do it the same way, but the principles apply.

I very rarely need to touch the brakes in my FRS.

If it was just one person, I'd probably guess that maybe they get motion sickness or don't like how sports cars ride. But it sounds like you have quite a number of people that don't like riding with you so it's likely your driving.

Smooth is fast. That means no throwing the car into corners. When I drive, I always aim to have have imperceptible accel/decel/cornering g-forces.

That’s the bummer with the pandemic, the pizza has taken a perceptible dive in quality. I remember when I could dine in the cheese was evenly distributed. Now whenever I get take out the cheese is all kinds of smashed to one side of the crust. It’s like they don’t even care anymore.

Well, then it's definitely your driving that is making your passengers sick. If you can keep the pizza even, you can keep your passengers comfortable and vice versa.

You know if you complain enough times to the people who make your pizza, eventually they may start adding extra "toppings" that will make you AND your passengers sick.
