Carbon Fiber Hoods.

I know the stock hood is light, and an argument could legitimately be made that a CF hood is unnecessary. However, carbon fiber hoods tend to have lots of venting and aerodynamic/cooling function. Not to mention they look so good. Do you think there will be a decent selection of vented CF Hoods?

Also, if you have any pics of an FRS/BRZ with a vented CF hood, i'd love to see it. I'm a CF fanboy.

I'm sure things will pop up in the beginning, but real enthusiast won't waste their time and money with them because the difference in weight will probably be in grams.

I wouldn't expect them to be around too long.

Unless it is a true dry carbon fiber hood, any carbon hood you find will be heavier then the stock aluminum hood. A real dry carbon hood like you would find on a race car would likely be 3,000-5,000 dollars, possibly more. The 400-700 dollar hoods are wet carbon laid over fiberglass and are going to be a fair bit heavier then the stock aluminum piece.

if that's a cf hood, it's most likely dry carbon, which as others have mentioned... really expensive.

if you want a vented hood. we could come up with a design and have it cut into your stock hood. or, you could save screw the weight, and we could have a cf hood molded and designed

I am at a minimum building a one off vented hood for myself. Working with an aero engineer on design. I will likely use a cheap CF blank as a base as I don't really want to cut up my stock hood...unless a whiteout car tags a phone pole backwards and becomes a parts car.

I'm toying with building a limited run assuming I get the engineer's blessing. Focus wouldn't be weight as much as getting rid of the front end lift at speed. Price point wouldn't be VIS, but it wouldn't be "dry carbon" either. Likely vacuum bagged wet layup. Would there be interest?

CF is great but only if you are actually using real CF not just overlay on top since those hood will most likely be heavier than the stock hood.

I don't see too many guys dropping grands for some CF parts

The stock FR-S/BRZ hood is BY FAR the lightest hood I have ever lifted.

I had some friends that were telling me I needed a CF hood on my Evo.... Damned Evo hood was practically weightless. CF would have weighed more. <3 aluminum

Yeah I honestly don't see this car needing much c/f parts. I wonder how much the c/f parts weighed on the Sti version of the Brz...

I wish C-one was still around. They made awesome parts for my celica. I had their ver.2 hood and it weighed around 9 lbs while my stock hood was around the mid to high 20s. It wasn't cheap though. Retailed around 1500 plus shipping.

i dont think the cf hood is a good idea but this statement is pretty ignorant. who are you to say who is a real enthusiast or not?

I remember when i replaced my Celica's hood with CF. Two of us lifted the stock hood away-- i lifted the CF one with one finger. It was awesome.

But a vent-modified stock hood would be fine with me for the FRS.

I agree. Can't believe how light it is. The one on our 2002 Accord weighs almost as much as the entire FR-S I think!
