Those guys never stayed in the scene, it wasn't in their blood. Same goes for the ISCA show circuit, you have guys that toss a blank check at a builder like Foose, to get them to the Ridler, and then you have guys that build cars in their basement to get there. Guys in the scene know what's up.

Every genre of car/truck style has those that live and breath it, and those that ride the trend.

"Stance" might be cheap to get into, that's what got a lot of guys into minitrucks, sport compacts, heck, hot rods in the 50's, but everyone has to start someplace.

Stance is just as not cheap as building for any of the other categories of modding. When you're having custom upper and lower control arms built by companies like RacerX, that tends to get pricey. Well-done body kits and mods are expensive, as are a lot of the wheels they run. Only the fact that it's started to become more of an accepted thing has led manufacturers to make parts for that purpose and allowed the price to come down.

It's just like tracking or showing or anything else people do with their cars. If you want to do it right, it costs a lot of money.

I know this guy who's into stance. He tells me about how he wants the wheel edges to be seen when you're behind the car, and how low his car is.

Not my cup of tea, at all, but he's having fun building his car, and I have no right to tell him that's lame. He's appreciating cars, just in a different way.

That said, I think stance is pretty lame, but I get it. I'm sure people think taking a new car and lowering it and turbo kits and racing is lame, so it's a wash I think.

Ugh, this political correctness type bullshit has got to stop.

Yes, it is possible for something to just simply be fucking stupid. Like stance.

Reminds me of when having a "fire extinguisher" in your car was all the rage, so people started putting fake ones attached to fake roll cages in their car.

Or the double wiper blades!

Trends come and go. Stance is stupid but I've seen far stupider. Black on black or "murdered out" is another one that has to go. Most manufacturers now have a black out package....that's when you know a trend is beaten to death.

Whoa, whoa, not all girls are into fashion and know nothing about cars

Stance culture is like some girls and high heels. Highly impractical but as long as they like it...

People are obviously allowed to do whatever they want but I agree, it looks ridiculous (not that people spending thousands on huge HP turbo kits so they can pop the hood and sit in a parking lot isn't).

My favorite part is still that the go to line is that they like to be different, yet these cars are set up exactly the same as every other stance car out there. It reminds me of the goth kids in Soutpark saying that to be a noncomformist, you have to dress and act exactly like them. Let's be honest, they generally don't really like the look because as soon as it's not the scene to be in, they'll switch to whatever else is.

To each his own has become a trite phrase, but really works well here...

Every (car) generation has their own trend that balloon's and then receeds. I think Gunman said it best earlier on. FWIW, I've been around enough "car trends" to see many things rise from nowhere, mushroom, then spiral out of control; with all the people that were into it completely denounce it. What people are calling "stance" is another one of these trends.

What I've personally noticed, is that the people that have been around a while, really don't care too much & do their own thing. It could also be that the people that stick around are more tolerant... Personally, I actually like what I guess the kids call "stance". Visually, i think it looks great - but what do I know? My dream car when I was 16 (back in 1993) was a Mazda B2200 extended cab with a targa roof, a wall of subwoofers behind my head, sitting about an inch off the ground on 15x8 "Hammers"..

If I had a nickel for every time a thread like this has been started, I could probably buy myself another twin.
