1GR-FE Swap
Hey guys,
Does anyone know of anyone who has done a 1GR-FE swap? Now before we get to the point of saying, just go with an LS(or whatever) I will have a 1GR-FE that I will be pulling out of my Tacoma and dropping an LS in it. I will have this 1GR-FE laying around. its a 4.0L V6 260HP and they are really solid motors. they handle boost really well too. im thinking the 60 HP gain off the top will be good and I think I can boost reliably to 350-400HP. I wouldn't doubt it if no one has done it. and it makes sense to go with a different motor if you don't have one laying around already. If so I will update this thread when I get more info on the swap. I will probably do it myself and post progress. |

I suppose one nice thing is it came out of a RWD application too, where as the 2GR did not.

Id have to look into it, not sure how much I can pull out of my 1GR. it may only have 60K miles on it but this is what Its coming out of.
I have raced it once already and it has some good offroad miles on it. not sure how well it would sell with people knowing that. |

Haha thanks and that's true but I have a conscience when it comes to things like that.
2GR does seem a lot cheaper. question is are they reliable enough to boost to the 350-400HP range. Also notice that the torque specs are higher on the 1GR and they hit their numbers at a lower RPM. from the offroad and truck world I know that is a good thing. Not sure how that would be in a car. Better lower end power might be a bit more "fun" around the corners. |

the 2GR is lighter, iirc.
check out www.monkeywrenchracing.com , they know a LOT about the 2GR. it's an amazing engine, with tons of potential. 300hp capable, simply by using a lotus ECU. |

Weight was one of my concerns. I haven't been able to find any weight specs for the 1/2GR engines yet.
Im also not looking to build another race car. My wallet is already suffering from my truck lol. |

as long as I don't spend as much as my truck is the goal. which shouldn't be hard lol. Im looking at a salvage title FR-S as well. In comparison I was thinking of getting a WRX STi. I think I can get a lot more out of the FR-S for considerably less. especially with a salvage title. By race car I mean I don't want to be in 100K :P |
