saw someone mentioning it on whatsapp, but wanted to post it here for posterity (yea right):
the sound: i imagine it like letting dry sand falling through your fingers onto the bonnet from 30 cm height, faint, dull rattle...
location: somewhere on the driver's side, coming from outside the car
when: highway driving, but louder at faster speeds

From what I can see it's coming from the mirror - if I fold them away it quiets down...

I notice that sound at high revs more than high speed, especially if you're staying in gear. For example, driving at 5,000+ rpm in 3rd while waiting for an overtaking opportunity.
