Complete rip off. Call spence at weir performance and get one like the other guy said. The whole swap cost me about $1k, and that includes sourcing an extra differential.

I have a manual car and was able to swap a 4.56 for a V6 toyota truck, gear set was sub $200 from Jaws gear. Obviously the V6 truck set may not work for everybody, but it did fit in my IS300 diff, but only barely.

I ordered mine from Weir as well. $340 shipped, including solid pinion spacer.

Well, he didn't exactly read the thread.

This thread has been a very interesting and informative read. Has anyone considered a final drive in the 4.25-4.33 range? I'm wondering if that would give much of the same benefit without the potential hit to fuel economy while cruising. Do you need to go as high as 4.55 to really notice the difference?

I get 28+ MPG with a 4.67 and 6MT.

Going from 4.1 to 4.25~4.33 is only a 3.5~5% change and won't be worth the cost or hassle. Don't do it unless you're going 10% or more. Go 4.55+ or keep it stock.

As I lay in bed sick and throwing up I still miss my BRZ for being the most unique Subaru I ever owned ( 16 since 2000 ). The FD mod WAS the most amazing by far. ( getting a header that reduced the tq dip was # 2 ).

But banging thru ALL the gears with the FD made me feel like a 996 Porsche Cup driver at the Ring' !

Ok back to bed !

Will it actually make the car faster? I'm not so sure. I'd be more inclined to believe that it might make the AT faster since it has a much lower gear to start with and the extra shifting won't effect it as much.

With the MT on a track, the higher final drive ratio can keep you in the powerband more, but you have to weigh that against the possible extra shifting time, so it really becomes very track dependent. For example, at Summit Point where both Myles (Racecomp Engineering) and I have run, Myles ran a low 1:28 with the final drive. With slightly less power than him (~180 vs ~185whp) and less sticky tires (235/40R17 Dunlop ZII's vs 235/40R18 Pirelli Trofeo R's) I ran a 1:27.5. Now I know it may not be a completely fair comparison (different driver, different date, different suspension setups etc.) and I'm not just trying to toot my own horn (OK, maybe just a little ) but I just want to point out that at least on track its not going to be some sort of earth shattering mod that magically makes you faster, especially depending on the track and where your shift points will be. Also, I'd imagine that for a lot of the MT cars that autocross the higher final drive ratio may make them run out of 2nd gear on a lot of the courses.

Just saw this !

Well I have raced there since 99 and have made the call to the wife on mahy occasions explaining how much my "off' would cost us so now when I go its not for the absolute fastest lap, its for the fastest lap without the dreaded call ! 9/10th maybe. Your lap on those tires is a good lap no doubt. at 47 I have nothing to prove anymore !

Yeah, I've been lucky so far to have not done anything worse than a relatively slow spin on track without hitting anything, so I have yet to have my confidence or my wallet shaken so far. I'm sure it will happen eventually but for now I'll keep pushing my luck

I do wish I could have the 4.55 final drive for NJMP Thunderbolt, as I tend to spend a fair amount of time in the lower end of 3rd and 4th gear around that track, but I don't think it would help at VIR which is my main focus for this year as the NASA East Coast Championships will be there in September.
