Much shame in your general direction.

Mustered up the strength to yank it. Immediately felt it backing out of the driveway. The feel is even better but I will say, for a normal sized person, pedal force might be a bit much in stop-and-go traffic.

I'm a bit of a sasquatch.

edit: If you don't mind a good manly clutch feel. I recommend both. It feels amazingly direct and crisp.

MTEC makes a replacement spring that might prove to be a good balance. No idea on the spring weight compared to stock. Judging by wire dimensions alone it looks to be 40~50% lighter than stock, right about where a normal clutch pedal return spring would be.

Looks like the AutoZone part might be the same as the 30620-AA111. The compound angles on the banjo area look the same to me.

edit: If the line doesn't fit with your slave then I don't see why you couldn't just route it like this -3 AN line from @Chase Bays. If he's still on the forum, maybe he can comment on the effect of reducing the line size (which should in effect be the same as shrinking the slave size, barring any potential existence of a delay valve).

edit again:

That explains the alignment issue you're seeing. The OEM Forrester part looks like it's in the same casting as the BRZ.

Now I wonder what might be different in the part you bought versus the original part from Subaru. Yours might be lacking a delay valve (if it exists) where the OEM parts have them. Just a thought.
Hi guys, I own the FRS twin, but I have a long-standing relationship with the local Subaru dealership's service department down the street.

I would like to know if this Forester part will be a 1:1 swap? Would love to pick it up rather than go to Toyo of Kirkland ($$$$ plus an hour drive? no thanks!)

30620AA111 is a 1:1 swap with the FRS/BRZ slave. It's the same casting with a smaller piston. The slave that @Ultramaroon purchased is for an older Forester, hence why it's not a 1:1 swap and doesn't match at the banjo mount.

You'll also want two new 114130151 crush washers and a small bottle of brake fluid if you don't already have it.

Official parts list:
1) Subaru 30620AA111 clutch slave
2) Subaru 114130151 crush washers (x2)
3) Small bottle of DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid

Except these aren't return springs. They are assist springs. This is an important distinction.

Yeah, I removed my reference to the wrong part even though I'm keeping it. @37 made a good point about just turning the banjo fitting. It works.

Uggh... I don't want to redo the photos but so many people will see it...

edit: nevermind. You're correct - I just checked the action and the spring cams over center. It does appear to assist.

Your CarQuest part number was incorrect but the Subaru part was fine. Your part is from an earlier Forester where the Subaru part (30620AA111) is a later model and fits 1:1 in the BRZ. Your local parts store probably just got you the wrong part. No worries.

I know it sounds like I'm nitpicking but a return spring works to bring the pedal back to its resting position. It works in the same direction as the return spring in the master cylinder.

As part of an over-center mechanism, this one works opposite. It is at is maximum compression when the pedal is at rest but doesn't apply any force to the pedal.

edit after seeing your edit: Yaay!

Is the one I found the correct one?

The list of vehicles looks correct, as does the photo. I'd say it's probably the correct replacement part.

Personally I'd rather spend the extra $15 and buy an original. At least you'd know what you're getting.

I'll call them & see if they know the bore size on the cylinder.

That $15 I save is for my OFT fund haha...
