The Australian Toyota 86 GTS is 35k.

But it's essentially the Euro GT86. It comes with the leather alacantra seats, hid headlights with DRL's, heated seats, sat nav, slightly better brakes, push button start and a few other small trim changes.

Easily worth the 5k over the standard 86 which is 30k and is similar to the FR-S except it standard with fog lights.

Frankly I'm amazed that we're only paying 5k more than America given what we pay for cars in Australia. I mean a 370Z costs 70k here and an MX5 (Miata) is 45k.

I am surprised the base FR-S only cost around $1000 more in Canada than the US.

That's approx only 3% difference, whereas many (almost all) cars here are 10 to 20% more.

Our freight and prep is in the $1600 range, and I seem to recall it being in the $1000 range stateside.

In Canada a 6 SPD high spec BRZ runs approx. $32000 inc freight, plus 13% tax. That's the priciest package not including dealer installed stuff here.

The car is probably the best deal for what you get when you buy the top line model here. Maybe I should have...

I'll check this tomorrow at my work there are a few guys who are Lucky enough to have there car already.
OK. Then no hope for me There is simply no auto-whipers. And the headlights sensor in not behind the mirror, its on the passenger side of the dashboard just before the windshield...[/QUOTE]

The sensor you pointed out is used for the automatic airco.
(it is used to adjust the air temperature of the airco if there is direct sunligth in the IP)
If there is automatic ligths on the car, the sensor is on the top of the front windshield behind the rearview mirror.
This is in all toyota's (in Europe anyway).
I know the guys who design and install them for European models.

Aha! OK. Thanks!

Then a question to you as the multimedia designer - why the backlight of the European headunit is amber while the rest of the interior is red ? Is that from pure cost saving (does this headunit go to other cars with amber interior backlight?) or it's your design feature?

This is a cost issue (this car is completely designed in Japan ).
This same display audio is also used in the previous auris, the previous Verso and the previous RAV4 in Europe.
I know because i designed it.
Japan decided to adopt this radio so they have an cheap way of introducing navigation in the car.
And the red background lights are only introduced recently (in Europe anyway) with the new Yaris.
Some of the parts are not changed yet because it is expensive.
there are about 60 LED's that need to be changed In a standard radio in Europe, you can imagine that this isn't cheap.
And then i'm not talking about the LED driver in the radio and the PCB that need to be modified for the new leds.

To be honest we had worse illumination inconsistency situations previous cars

Let me fix this for you so it is readable for others.

Most of the Scion FRS' owned by a 16 year old is probably bought by his or her parents; while the parents pay for insurance, gas, or maintenance.

I tried to make your version grammatically correct but I couldn't... At least you capitalized the first word and used the built in spell check on your browser.

I just received my GT86 and it doesn't have automatic wipers.
So it seems it is not available on the car.
Sorry for giving wrong information.

hose taxes (in australia anyway) pay for a social health care system where people dont go bankrupt trying to get treatment. Those taxes pay for far superior roads. Those taxes also pay all upfront costs for your higher education (you have to pay them back but its interest free). The taxes also pay for a social welfare system.

Maybe those taxes would help improve the social well-being of the US and get them out of this rut?

(flame on) Lucky to have a socialist government? I don't think so. Unless you have lived in the US, you are only spouting socialist propaganda (which unfortunately is very popular here at the moment). I lived in England and Ireland for almost a decade and your statements are blatantly inaccurate. My wife's cousin who has lived in England his entire life had to wait 18 months for a simple knee operation. (Canada has the very same problem) What do you call that? I call that unacceptable. Socialism is not the answer to anything (English, Irish, European, Australian or American... or any other mix or subset you care to use). I have been to Australia and the people that are great... the socialist governments have been a drag on the country and have actually convinced some people that high taxes and giving everything to everyone actually leads to growth. (Obviously a fantasy) What will improve the social well being of America and everywhere else is the idea the there is a place you can go to, work hard, get ahead and be successful. Much like the US has been for the previous 100 plus years. ... Which is why the US has done so for well over those 100 plus years and drawing people from all over the world who came here were successful.

The current socialist government is crumbling and with it all the nonsense that people have to be given everything. There is an old adage about if you don't earn something you don't appreciate it... that is especially true in this case. You want lower prices for things like cars, better value and lower taxes... skip the socialism and try more of a free market approach.... I know Australia knows how to do it... they have done it in the past. (flame off)

Hold you horses guys, you can fight politics all day u want but don't drag it out on car forum please. Everyone will have wut they believe is correct. Voicing your opinions if u want, it's great.

But most ppl I know either only lived in 1 or 2 countries to actually have an all around perspective of the real problem to put out some convincing shit. So stop joking with yourself when you only knows a glimpse of how things work before you go all flame war. AKA stop acting like kids, before u turn this country into 3rd world country again.

Don't believe me? go visit one of those countries and watch their news.
