Those people are the worst. Specifically Porsche GT car owners.

If you keep it garaged and almost never drive it so it has like < 10k miles I could almost guarantee you it will appreciate SOMEDAY. Maybe 50 years from now but it will probably worth something. It probably would have cost you more to store it all that time and the amount of money to buy one could be Invested in many other ways that would make way more money in that kind of time frame with almost no risk.. Not to mention you might get sentimental after projecting it for that long and not want to sell it anyway. All that said you can keep almost any car in near showroom shape and make money off it in enough time because there will be someone who will pay to have that "brand new" car from back in time. That's the real value though is a car that's barely driven and what fun is that? I mean if you got Jay Leno money and so many cars it's hard to give any of them enough attention that's one thing...

Very true. I'm a big third gen F-body fan and the insane amount of stupidly low mile (sub 5k) IROCs that have been sold the last few years is astounding.

People have been saying "glad to see they are appreciating in value" when an IROC sells for $30k +. Problem is, is that if you account for inflation from when the car was new, people are losing money to the tune of tens of thousands.

Don’t buy cars to appreciate. Buy them because you need or want. If it appreciates good for you.

I don't think it realistically matters much if there even is another generation, as values for our cars will experience downward pressure due to the existence of faster cars in the same price and year bracket, like the WRX, 2.0t Camaro or 370z. I don't think we can expect the value for our cars to begin floating upwards until after all of these cars values float out of relative affordability first.

Since a 2nd gen is definitely coming and it'll be awesome causing Gen1 values to go negative, I will take your Gen1 cars for $20 each, no questions asked in order to protect some of your investment.

Who invests money in cars?

I could die tomorrow.... If a 2nd gen comes out and is RWD, MT, 2door, with good amounts of both Toyota & Subaru DNA, I'm all over it.

Some people think they are, but most end up taking a bath down the road due to inflation.

Cars that are truly rare from desirable exotic marques are usually the only real "investments".

On the other hand, look at the prices of A80 Supra's. Granted the 2JZ is a big reason for that and I really don't think the FA20 is going to go down in history as legendary.

it'll be legendary for the torque dip.

People never really add in all the expenses overtime for cars or houses. Often these things make you no money when everything is considered. But you can get a significant amount of your money back which reduces your overall cost for the use of the car or house.

I am not counting on Subaru’s appreciating much unless they are rare. I also feel the absolute performance of future EVs will greatly effect the used and classic car market. I mean when they drive prices down like TVs it will take a certain person to buy an ICE car that can’t perform nearly as good as a regular EV. It’s coming in my lifetime for sure.
