That would make it way too heavy to even get off the ground. The other thing is the plane gets lighter over time as the jet fuel is burned away, a battery will not as it drains. A battery would need to be able to store a helluva lot more power and weigh a helluva lot less in order to make some short and all long haul flights work. And imagine the amount of time it would need to recharge all those batteries......its gonna be hours....and i doubt the aviation industry can accept that with the amount of come and go planes do. They'd need a bunch of unused reserve planes waiting in the wings to replace the ones that touch down. Alot of times its all "oh just do this and that, the tech is ready lets transition already!". But no one ever thinks about the processes involved (except the engineers that try to make it work) to make it a viable alternative. It kind of makes me wonder how we can even reach these combustion ban goals (2030-2035) when we dont even have cars to sell RIGHT NOW. Alot of makes have stopped taking EV orders and now there are like 1+year waitlists. There is going to be like 2 or 3 years (or more) of wasted time before we can even get back to a normal timeline where any progress can even start being made. |

Yea, the government can change (delete/extend) the artificial deadline as quickly as it made it in the first place. In fact, I'm not sure there has ever been a hard (not changed) deadline on any of these type rulings. Heck, even something like the analog to digital TV conversion was extended several times.
