Cool New stock GR86 '22 Dyno Runs: Twins packing more power than advertised!!

YouTube channel FTspeed got their hands on a brand new Neptune Blue GR86 and strapped it to a dyno. Mind you this car only had ~500miles on the odometer so not even broke-in yet! 1st pull car makes "211.34 horsepower at 6,840 RPM and 169.63 pound-feet (230 Nm) at 3,220 RPM, at the wheels. During the runs, the GR 86’s horsepower and torque figures slowly increased and in the final run it pumped out 215.54 hp and 170.87 lb-ft (231.7 Nm) of torque at the rear wheels. If you take into account drivetrain losses, it seems likely that the GR 86’s engine is actually producing more than 250 hp, rather than just shy of 230 hp."

It is nice to continue adding data points though. The more done on different dynos, in differing conditions, the better average numbers we can get.

The video is in the last post in the dyno compilation thread that I linked.

Stock vs. stock, BRZ should pull on both AP1 and AP2 S2000:

Savagegeese comparison had the gen 2 pull away quite handily from an AP2 S2K -

It makes sense, mathematically. Gen1 claimed 205 crank, and we know it made 175 wheel. We can use the ratio, knowing Gen2 makes 215 wheel:

(205 / 175) x 215 = 252 crank

You can almost get the same answer with the difference in displacement, knowing Gen1 was a 2.0 and Gen2 is a 2.4:

(2.4 / 2.0) x 205 = 246 crank

Basically, the car makes about 250 crank, give or take 5 hp. Fair enough?

Over in Australia, the reporting is not so much that the new gen have understated hp at the crank, its that the last gen were producing far below the stated numbers.

Our untuned gen 1's were ~150hp at the wheels - consistently.

I don't understand the guys that seem to be obsessed with 100s of dyno runs, correlation factors, dyno conditions, yada, yada, yada ... Why??

Don't get me wrong, I can understand doing dynos on stock cars and then following them up with dynos after various different mods (preferably same car, same dyno, same conditions) to see what kind of percentage difference the mods make - not to mention the value in tuning in general.

I just don't get the obsession with 238.6 vs. 241.5 at the crank (which aren't significant figures anyhow).

These go to 241.5.
