The car IS lower, that has nothing to do with marketing and everything to do with how high the garage door needs to be in order to not hit the highest point.
No offense, but stick to math if thats your forte. Marketing not so much.

Do you want to say over here how much perfect is the new car and just praise it? No, I won't do this and I'll raise my opinion if I see something weird.

Center of gravity can be lowered by the aluminum roof which is lighter, but they never said how much was the effect of this change. The only published number is the 0.4" difference on total height (incl. the antenna). I was just thinking from where they could gain this height, if they had to keep the same gap on wheel fenders. Then I was checking two pictures and accidentally found this difference on the shark fin position. In fact, I did the same exercise in two different pairs of pictures (=real pictures and not CGI) and in both cases the shark fin position difference was the same. Maybe it is because of a difference in roof design, but until we have actual measurements we won't know for sure.

Having said the above ... If you are thinking that in general whatever is published in catalog cannot be related to "marketing" , then you are just dreaming or living in a fantasy land.

Of course marketing can and does use whatever it can to hype the car, but I don't think that "marketing" drove any moving or reshaping of the antenna beyond just wanting to make the car look "better".

Your photo analysis could be *way* off with even very small difference in position of the photographer relative to the car or lens focal length. And the dropoff in height going aft at the back of the roof isn't very steep. They'd have to move it back a long way to get 0.4" height reduction...

Anyway, to my eye the new car looks less "on stilts" than the current one, from the pics I've seen. We'll see!

The current one looks being "on stilts", because of the limited suspension travel. I don't think they solved the issue on the new ones. They can praise how the suspension is *better*, but whatever they use ... Sachs, Showa, KYB, they are all made under the same strict "general maintenance schedule" and cost guidelines of a production car so I wouldn't consider it better. They'll be just a little different, but not to an extent a true performance driver will call it outside the PR talks, a performance suspension. They will be all twin tube as mono-tube are too expensive to equip on a $25,000 range car.

I am happy with my BRZ right now, and it is so customizable that it really isn't about how it comes new, or shortcomings. It is about fun of making it over a long period of ownership. But for people who want new and pride of having something new and not change anything, or for people who will join in near future the platform maybe the new one is worth the wait.

No reason they couldn't have. Ferinstance the Bilstein B8 struts on my car have *way* more bump travel than the factory PP/Sachs struts. I'd bet at least 25mm. To my eye, the new car looks lower. I'm guessing that they just lowered the car some amount, perhaps 0.4" perhaps a bit less. It *is* technically feasible to do this (carmakers have differing ride heights between versions of the same car all the time), and it accounts for: lower overall height, lower c.g. height, with the same headroom, and what looks to me like lower front fenders relative to wheels. Occam's razor...

So, progress is never possible? Of course it *is* possible to make improvements at the same cost and maintenance schedules, etc.

And it is possible to improve further on the twintubes on the current car. The Sachs in particular could be retuned for less harsh high-speed compression damping and it wouldn't cast them anything.

But anyway, Monotube Bilsteins cost me $800. That would probably be a $200-$400 cost for Subaru. Could easily fold it in with new-model "upgrade" price increase, or into a new Performance Package for short $$$.

But *anyway*, getting back to ride height, the cost associated with specifying greater bump travel in the updated suspension wouldn't/shouldn't have cost them much if anything.

It's an odd point you're making here, are you suggesting the new one won't be as customizable as yours? Why not? Personally "new" and "pride of having something new" doesn't mean much to me. But 2.4 liters, +20% more torque average over the powerband, +30% at the torque dip (not that that's a major gripe for me) and +11% more peak power, and slightly increased rev limit, all those things strongly appeal to me. If and when I get one I'm sure I'll do pretty much the same mods I've done to my '17.

This is the worst part about the Sachs IMO. Test drove a PP and the front end bounce on the Highway was really annoying compared to my 2017 standard suspension.

@ZDan : Did you not have an accident with your current car? If you 're not happy with the fix or have second-thoughts, then you are free to change it. Just don't try to convince everyone else that suddenly factory solved all the problems or that they'll solve them easily in a performance package option. It is not that simple and I believe you know it already. I like the choice of the new engine which for sure is an improvement, but it won't suddenly move the car into a whole new category. For me it is a total waste of money to buy the new one and start doing the same modifications. It would make sense only if he is a newcomer, or his 86/BRZ is already old with high mileage etc.

I won't continue this discussion. Got to see a nice movie
