I drove something very similar in the early 90s at Sears Point. A company was promoting cars for club racing. It had the same configuration: Suzuki bike motor and built with as many common car auto store parts as possible. I remember they were selling them with trailer and 2 sets of tires for a hair over $10k. It was a kick to drive.

In this case, you "hangar" it at home but can't take it off from there so you trailer it to where you can. For small experimental helicopters, gyrocopters and even some airplanes, this isn't unusual.

Also, if you are taking it to an airshow, say in Florida, and you live in Oregon, you'll likely get there faster by trailering it.

Ho's just messing with me.

I have a running joke with Mrs. Ultra about her not letting me have a helicopter. It's on my Christmas list every year. I'd have to drop a hundred pounds before I could fly a Skeeter anyhow.

...I'd do it for that.

Cost to run even something cheap is why years ago I never even bothered finishing a NASA TT build with my Miata (and I had already done a killer suspension/brake set up). I figured based on HPDE usage, and this was 10+ years ago when stuff, including track time, was much cheaper. I would be around $800-1000 per weekend.

Which didn't include entry fees, gas/maintenance for tow a rig, food/water (I can't do the greasy burger and fries if the track has a little cafe), etc. Even amateur racing is a rich mans game.

And now I'm too fat and lazy to spend so much time in the garage properly maintaining a track car. Although I am getting a hankering for another project.

I think I got the most notes on my old Jeep Gladiator pickups years ago. I was tempted just to put a "not for sale" sign in the window.

I was at a Cars and Coffee this summer and a guy with an E30 M3 had something like "NT4SALE" as his license plate.

I backed out of considering W2W after looking at the costs. I had already started buying parts and talking to a cage builder to go that route but was quickly scared off. Tires alone was more than I was spending in a year at the track.

You guys have all really figured out the state of racing these days. The SCCA, for example, is working hard at pissing off the old school members because they want to get rid of the old cars/classes but the reason those things have stuck around really seems to be cost. A lot of people made an investment a long time ago and all they really have are the base operating costs (tires, fuel, etc.). To get into the game now is at least a $50k investment and that's just to get the bottom level equipment to do all this, not be competitive.

It all seems like the perfect Catch22. By the time I can afford to do this, my skills development is long past and my ongoing skills degrade with age. When I could do it well with the hope of getting good, I couldn't afford to do it. It all makes me so sad.
