The "collectors" I know of don't buy Porsche's 'normal' cars, except to get themselves on a list for the next hypercar.

Bullshit. There are car enthusiasts in every generation. Younger generations don’t have money for cars. That’s the problem. When you need a 120k degree to make over 14/hour in a lot of states and housing costs you 800/month WITH roommates, there’s no room for expensive cars.

I’m considering myself lucky and do well enough for myself, but the BRZ is about the most car I can afford. I have no interest whatsoever in cars that are 50k+, cause I know I’ll never be able to afford them. if that makes me a shitty car enthusiast, oh well, my generation is supposed to kill car culture anyway.

Hell, if I tracked 10 days a year every year, I'd still get a daily and a purpose-built track car. I saw a guy at the track once. He had a modern FWD Civic that had been in a spec Honda sponsored racing series that had gone defunct. He was happy as a clam, fast as a rocket, and safe.
It's almost entirely a brand new engine (unlike the last GT4 with it's parts bin 911S engine). Shares basically nothing with any other engine. Most 718 CGTS's I see on dealer lots are already $100k+. Most 911s are $140k+. So $100k for a GT4, not really 911 money. As to a FWD Civic - different strokes for different folks. I was at the track 2 weekends ago with a buddy and our times were almost identical. He was in a stripped out EG hatchback w/H22a that fully loaded maybe weighed 2300 lb. He would rather have a Cayman (and can afford one) but it's not the right time for him. Still, he has to tow it and I just "run what I brung".

Apparently they won't, ever. Here's the latest bullsh*t line:

Apparently they won't adjust the gearset because they don't want to pay to recertify, but it seems like a flimsy excuse since the gear ratios have been identical and unchanged since 2006.

I'm with @Yoshoobaroo

Gen Y and Z are definitely into cars, but their world is much different. Maybe you are saying they aren't interested for practical reasons, but if you are saying they aren't interest for a lack of appeal then consider the following. Many families can't afford to buy their kids a car or pay for their kids insurance, so these teens need to buy a car themselves, except most of the time this means working a minimum wage job that doesn't pay them what they feel their time is worth, but even if it did, they can't drive with their friends. In order to get their license at 16 they have to jump through more hoops than generations before them, and when they finally do, they can only drive with another licensed adult over 20 and at limited hours for the first 12 months, so most just wait until they are 18 to bypass the whole process.

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/de...t_facts/ffdl19

After 18 the outlook for owning a sports car isn't practical for most. The most practical vehicle is a hand-me-down truck or CUV, which is what is selling because they can transport your possession and friends in all scenarios. Most people can't afford to own, to maintain or to secure the space to store a second vehicle, especially when they are struggling to move out of their parents house (affordable housing?/living wages?). This is why the average age of sports car owners continues to rise, as does the average age to marriage, the average age of skiers, the average age of motorcyclists, etc. This is a money issue and that is all.

^Yeah and partially thanks to all the crash and emissions related regulations lunacy and almost all affordable sports cars have been wiped off the map.

More like $1000 for a single bedroom in a mediocre bay area community. Want to split a house in SF? Maybe $3000.

You have to get the right degree and know the right people. Or you have to start a business and be smart enough and hardworking enough to make it work. You can luck into a good union job. Otherwise you're gonna struggle.

Yea the numbers change a bit depending on location, but pretty much everyone 35 and under is getting shafted on wages.

Really, there's a very long history of shafting on wages. That's why unions exist.

Yeah thats why I put collector in quotes. Speculator is a more accurate word I think.
I cant believe the aircooled cars are as high as they are....

That's definitely not a selling point, given Porsche's history.

Agreed ‘16 gt4/spyder 3.8 is quite solid. The bugs had been worked out. Now 3rd gear failing was another story.

BUT Porsche stands by their cars. Transmissions are being replaced and all pretty much all failures were replaced under warranty, even those on track. Much like the 991.1 GT3 cars that have a 10 year engine warranty.
