Smaller is good. Shame it looks like they haven't fixed the outward visibility. The only thing that swung me to the Mustang over the Camaro, and I'm a dyed in the wool Chevy guy, was the fact that I really couldn't see well out of the Camaro.

I think a lot are hoping for that and a better interior. The Mustang set the bar for a nice interior now. Lets see if Chevy can one up it.

This thread isn't meant to be an 86 vs 2016 Camaro that has not been unveiled. The whole reason I'm interested in this generation is the alpha platform.
More like 3x the cost if you go by sticker price. My FR-S was 25.6K sticker, the Chevy dealer next to it had a Z28, sticker was 73.5K!

Those brakes though.

I'm looking forward to the details on the 2016.

I cross-shopped the Camaro ZL1 and the FR-S in 2012 (don't judge me, the heart of a car guy wants what it wants, it doesn't have to make sense) and ended up with the FR-S because my wife couldn't drive the Camaro. Also, there was the huge price difference and kids in college.

My next car will be either a G6 Camaro or a C7 Corvette since it doesn't look like there is a hint of a Mk2 FR-S in the time frame (3 to 5 model years). The new Supra might be a contender as well....or maybe the Cadillac CTS-V....the list is long, the bank account short.

The funny thing is, Mrs. Malave absolutely loves driving her Camaro. She whips that thing around and into parking spaces faster than I drive or park my FR-S.

Visibility on the fifth-gen only is lacking to me in two areas.
1) the A-pillars are ridiculously thick. I think the FR-S is still too thick, but probably the thinnest I've seen with airbags stuffed in there.
2) backing out of an angled parking spot. So I just avoid that situation... Also, I always back into a parking spot, so angled parking spots are a no-no anyway.

I'm definitely excited about the sixth-gen. I plan on keeping my FR-S until it is paid off, and then re-evaluate my situation based on what's on the market... I miss my V8 with the GM dual-mode exhaust though. But who knows, by then, if kids happen, I could end up in a WRX or something.

Same for me. If Chevy can deliver on their promise to make the new Camaro smaller and lighter, I will definitely consider it. Basing it off the alpha platform makes it within the realm of possibility. And extra points if they can fix outward visibility and the gauge cluster.

This is probably the most excited I've been for a Chevy product in a long while. Then again, Ford also promised a lighter Mustang and failed, so maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up.

My last SS was a 2002, anniversary edition. Hell of a car. I loved the LS1 and the F-body. I skipped the 5th gen due to what you just mentioned. The visibility, and it was just way too fat. The alpha has renewed my hope in a sleeker Camaro. Chevy's also had some time since the release of the 2015 Mustang to tear that thing apart and work some magic on the new Camaro. Considering the only two parts are carrying over from 2015 are the SS badge and the bowtie.... it's going to be interesting. Exciting times coming in May.

While pictures can be deceiving, that spy shot makes the new Camaro look anything like "sleek or slender" nor does it appear the rear visibilities issues will be resolved. I will hold my judgement though until the actual product gets revealed.

MomHawk (all 5'2" of her) couldn't see out of it. She literally was below the dash on the passenger side and had to jack the seat way up on the driver side, then pull it so far forward that had the airbag gone off, there wouldn't have been anything left of her. She drives the crap out of her Mustang though, I wouldn't want to race her!

Last Camaro I had was an '83 Z28 with a custom Targa top (like the Simon and Simon tv show, except mine was white). Loved that car almost as much as my MK1 MR2, that I owned at the same time. Talk about extremes!

it's really hard to tell with the camo on it, that's its purpose. Still, I agree, it doesn't look as changed as I would have expected. Heck I thought it was a current gen car when I first looked at it.

That's the way my wife is seated too (5'2" as well, though she will argue 5'3" lol), but that's how she sits in all the cars she's had, her old Avalon, her scion xB... Maybe not all the way forward, but definitely all the way up.

She loved the fact that in 2013 model year, they made the passenger seats on 1LT and up have full power controls like the driver seat, so she could see over the dash. That was her one major complaint to the 2012 and earlier models. (my SS was '13my)

True but IMO the camo doesn't hide the size or proportions of the vehicle, granted without it sitting next to a current gen Camaro it would be really tough to tell how big (or small) it really is and even then that doesn't tell you what the finished curb weight will be. Personally, I doubt it will end up being any lighter than the current gen Camaros but the numbers won't lie once it gets officially released to the public.
